Question about Mantis 2-Cycle Tiller
It will then die. Some times it will run for a few min. if i just let it idle will then die as soon as I give it any gas. I tried fiddling with the two adjuster screws on the carb but that did nothing but make it not run at all until they were lined up in the previous position. New plug, new air filter, new gas. nothing seems to work. any suggestions would be great. many thanks in advance.

Check fuel filter and lines, if thay are good I would get a carb kit and set the adjustment screws at 1 turn out from lightley seated to start. Don't lean high speed screw too much.
You might check muffler & cylinder port for carbon first.

replace primer bulb. If that's not the problem check the float in the carb for pin holes . check fuel lines and intake line

SOURCE: Won't stay running...
I had the same problem with my mantis. It would start fine after a few pulls, but had no power. I changed the plug, replaced the carb completely...nothing helped. Took it to a shop and paid $70 for a tune up that didn't help at all, and the shop owner just said "sorry".
After everything else was done, I pulled the cover off the muffler, (3 screws) then removed 3 screws over a small spark arrestor screen and found it was clogged...cleaned it and guess what...IT WORKS FINE NOW!
The best and easiest fix I have ever done to a small engine. I felt like an idiot, because the exhaust side of the motor MUST be clear to work properly on small engines. The only reason I was removing the muffler in the first place was to check the compression and VOILA!!!
An easy and quick fix I recommend for all Mantis tillers before you waste money on carb issues (which is what the company will tell you to fix to solve this problem).

also have Mantis tiller for 2 years. From the very beginning I had
a problems. I was referred by Mantis to the repair store and was charged $90.00
for oil drainage. The second time I was waiting for handle replacement for ~ 1
month. This tiller can't handle even little jobs and the warranty doesn't worth
a dime. Maybe I will be more successful using it in my living room . I have an
equipment with Briggs and
Stratton engines and I never had a problem.
To me Mantis mean big advertisement and waste of money.
