Yep,the controller card on the hard drive is bad. Hope it's got some warranty left as you can't replace the controller card. If you want to be extra sure, just pull the hard drive out of the enclosure & you can either plug it into your pc directly, by turning off the pc, removing the side cover, & installing it as a slave drive. Very easy to do if it's a SATA drive, it's plug & play,IDE you need to set jumpers on first to cable select or slave. If the pc can read it now, then the board in the enclosure is bad. I wouldn't waste time with all that, if the warranty is out,buy another drive & re-use the same enclosure to save a few bucks. Optionally, you can toss the drive out but keep the enclosure to use as a testing dock for other hard drives. That's what I use for testing drives,i have one for 2.5"ide, one for 3.5" ide,& one sata that does both sizes. Hope I helped. Thanks for using Fixya!

How do i operate the self cleaning function

Hello - Before using the self-cleaning cycle of the appliance, remove the broiler pan and any utensils stored in the appliance. Also remove any excess spillovers in the oven cavity. Allow the oven to cool before cleaning. During the self-cleaning cycle, the outside of the wall oven can become very hot to the touch.

Typically to set the controls for a self-clean the first step is to confirm that the clock shows the correct time of the day. Press CLEAN. "---" appears in the display. Press the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW once. "3:00" appears in the display for a 3 hour cycle. To change to a 2 hour cycle press DOWN ARROW"2:00" appears in the display. As soon as the controls are set, the motor drive lock will begin to close automatically and the "LOCK" indicator light will flash. DO NOT open the oven door while the light is flashing (it takes about 15 seconds for the over door to lock). "CLn" will appear in the display during the Self-Clean cycle and the "LOCK" light will glow until the Self-Cleaning cycle is complete or cancelled and the oven temperature has cooled.

When the Self-Clean cycle has completed, the time of the day or "End" will appear in the display window and the "Clean" and "LOCK" light will continue to glow. Once the over has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. If "End" is the display and the Clean indicator light remains ON, press CLEAR/OFF. The time of the day will appear in the display.

If it becomes necessary to stop or interrupt a Self-Cleaning cycle, press CLEAR/OFF. Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. Restart the Self-Clean cycle once all conditions have been corrected.

How to repair and recover WD5000AAKS hard drive

The problem may be there in your hard drive, try the hard drive with another computer and if the problem persists, go to the nearest Service Center of the Manufacturer.

If the problem is solved on another computer, try repairing your OS first.

Hope this helps, Mrityunjay.

What does the blue blinking light at the very bottom, under the blue power button indicates?

According to the Dell 531 owners manual:

"Drive activity light-
blue light - A blinking blue light indicates the computer is reading data from or writing data to the SATA hard drive, CD, DVD or HDD."

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/inspd531/en/OM/appendix.htm

Safe to ignore. It will blink even when the computer appears to be idle.

that is a sign that this hard drive is also failing.
please contact WD to RMA this hard drive back.
you can submit a complaint to them saying it is the 2nd drive that you receive that is going bad from them.
they may send you a different model or similar model.

Internal Harddrive giving hissing sound.and not booting. Model: western digital WD5000AAKS 500gb SATA internal drive. On PCB it says: 2060-701640-002 REV-A Recorded sound .wav file:...

Your hard drive is probably either failing, or about to fail. The 5 hour freeze technique will at best buy you a few hours to backup your data. I would backup everything and prepare for that drive to fail.

After a year, this WD50000AAKS just stop working and cannot find in BIOS. Stay away from this Western Digital SATA drive ****.

the problem is the controler og the drive wich is:
Marvell, 88i6745-TFJ1, internal EEPROM: - this chip is used in Western Digital's Tornado family, eg WD5000AAKS-xxTMA0, WD5000AAKS-xxYGA0, WD3200AAJS. - it has a common failure mode that mimics head/media faults, eg clicking, spin-down.found it here: http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/HDD_ICs.txt

Dead Western Digital 500 gig hard drive (My Book)

I had same issue. 1.5 yrs old and suddenly not accessible. Took unit apart with screw drivers and broke a couple of tabs. I'm now thinking that if you first pull off the soft rubber "gasket" around the unit, you can take apart without breaking. It then should split into two pieces. Inside mine I found a WD5000AAKS that is now called Blue Caviar, but this was before they used that "blue" name. I took the controller board off the drive and after cleaning with Qtips and laquer thinner found some burned pins on the largest chip. I tried buying a brand new WD5000AAKS and swapped controllers, The old controller was seen by the BIOS when I connected to my PC's SATA, but the new controller is not. Now I have a new 'AAKS that I don't want and am searching for an older 'AAKS to try it's controller board.

Red Light/Blue Light I/O Error

My nx2 is working again after having the "red light/blue light/I/O Error" problem. I just:

1. turned off my computer
2.unplugged the HD,
3. took out the HD from the enclosure and plugged it back into the enclosure,
4.started up my computer without the HD being plugged in
5. after my computer had been on for a minute, I plugged the HD in and my computer recognized it and had the proper mixture of red and blue light coming from the HD, indicating it's working properly.

Good luck!
