There is also the gear change rod to undo.Look on the side of the leg,for a small plate.Inside it,is where the connecting bolts will be.Be in nuetral when you undo it and put it back together. On the water pump.Pay special attention to which way the lobes on the rubber impellar are facing.Wrong way around and you will damage the new impellar.Hope this helps

Completely remove the lower shift shaft coupler bolt to separate the assemblies. It is a snug fit, so be deliberate in your straight pull-out of the gear case.

1997 Evinrude 50 HP SPL. I have removed all the bolts holding the lower rnd to the engine, it seems to be hanging up on the shify shaft, and I can't find a way to drop the unit. It drops down about...

Okay this is on total memory. The shift shaft for a lot of those engines goes right up through the pilot shaft and exits just in front of the block under the carburetor(s). You will see the **** linkage arm connected to this shaft sometimes it's double nutted. See if you can slide the lower unit back up to the housing and put a bolt in it to hold then undue the shift shaft linkage, Remove the bolt and drop the lower unit. Be careful of the water tubes and check make sure the rubber grommets are in place in the pump housing not on the tubes. Clean up the pump housing and install the new impeller kit.
Put the impeller down the shaft on top of the impeller plate, lightly grease the inside of the housing the impeller plate and impeller. Then lower the pump housing down to the impeller while turning the drive shaft clockwise lightly push down on the impeller housing. This will fold the impeller blades all in the correct position and provide lubrication to the pump until the water gets into the pump. To make life easier re-grease the drive shaft spline and the water tube grommets this will ad ease in reinstalling the lower unit. be careful to make sure you thread the drive shaft, water tubes and shift shaft all in at the same time. After installation you may find you need to adjust the **** linkage.

How to remove pump from motor

remove the bolts holding the suction side cover on. remove the cover on the end of the motor and use a tool (armature holding tool) to immobilize the motor shaft. remove the center screw (if applicable) in the middle of the impeller by turning clockwise. Spin the impeller off by turning counter-clockwise. If it will not come off, you may need an impeller wrench. Once the impeller is off you can remove the four through bolts and the motor should come right off.

How tough is it to change water pump impeller on 15hp johnson

There is no special tricks.Unbolt the gearshift linkage that has access through the side of the leg.Usually a small plate.Unbolt the lower g/box.4 bolts I think. The box should then drop.If not,use a rubber hammer and be patient.Put the lower skeg of the g/box in a vice to make things easier.NOW.When you lift the housing of the w/pump take a note of which way the impellar pump lobes are curled.DON'T put the new impellar in the wrong way. It's probably worth putting in a new seal whilst it's apart. You spin the housing or imp. as you put it together.Use a small bit of grease for the initiall dry start-up.Put some very good grease on the top splines on the driveshaft. It goes straight into the crankshaft. If it corrodes, nothing comes apart. As you put the g/box back on,spin the prop so the splines go back in.There is no special alignment.Gearchange linkage and you go fishing.(take the prop off and regrease the splines on the shaft of it)Hope this helps

How to seperate pump from motor

Disconnect all power. Remove the six bolts holding the seal plate to the wet end. Remove the two small allen screws to remove the diffuser. Remove the dust cap from the end of the motor and secure the shaft from moving. If installed, remove the Phillips head screw in the center of the impeller by turning clockwise (left hand threads). You can now remove the impeller by turning counter clockwise, note that you may need an impeller wrench to remove it and a specific tool to hold the shaft while you remove the impeller. Once the impeller is off you can remove the four bolts that hold the motor to the seal plate. This process just needs to be reversed to re-install but you will need a new shaft seal (PS-1000).

Need to replace the water impeller on my 2003 60 horse Johnson motor would like some drawings to let me see where it is and how to get at it.

Mate i have not done this one in particular, but most impellers in outboard motors are in the leg. You will need to undo the bolts above the water intake to remove the bottom of the leg, first disconnect the gear selector. Usually behind a cover-plate up near the engine end of the leg. once you have the linkage and the bolts (about 5 bolts that run up the leg, bolt heads point to the ground)undone you can lower the leg out with a bit of a wiggle(don't forget the bolt above the prop). Put the leg on a work bench.the drive shaft protrudes from the impeller housing, undo the bolts that retain the housing and remove, exposing the impeller. when you reassemble be sure to insert the impeller so that the fins are laying in the correct direction to avoid pinching on start up, and when you stick the leg back together be careful to align the water cooling tube in its correct position. It looks and sounds hard but it isn't that bad at the end. The first time i did this i looked over someones shoulder then no sweat. Good luck Timo

REMOVE WET END FROM MOTOR ON FLO-MASTER XP2

You will need to remove the six bolts/nuts on the wet end to expose the impeller. At the rear of the motor, remove the cap covering the shaft and restrain the shaft and spin the impeller off (counter-clockwise). Check to see if there is a screw in the center of the impeller and remove it by turning clockwise (if applicable). Once the impeller is off, you can remove the four through bolts from the rear of the motor using a 5/16 nut driver and the wet end should come right off.

Need to change impellor on 1988 70 hp johnson how to please

first go to www.crowleymarine.com to get a picture breakdown of your water pump. website instruction, click on part catalog tab, click on omc Johnson and evinrude tab. choose product line, year tab, engine size, choose model. click on gearcase. the picture showes all parts you have and the correct order they go. ok now we are ready to disasemble the lower gearcase from the motor.(1) trim the outboard down using the tim and tilt system (2) shift remote control into forward gear, this lines up the shift rod so you can reach it. a picture of the linkage is refernce number 50 on the picture from crowleymarine.(3) Remove engine coul, under the carburators you will be able to see the shift rod. if you can't see it follow the shift cable to the shift linkage to the shift rod(4) the shift rod has a hole in the top, that a long screw goes through, connecting shift rod to shift linkage. remove this screw(refer to picture downloaded)(5) again refer to the downloaded picture remove these bolts that i list. number 66 there is 4. #77 there is 1. pull off #76 trim tab.#68 there is 1. #70 there is 1. lower unit will drop after you remove all bolts. remove the impeller housing. look at impeller you will see the fins are bent in one direction. put new impeller in with fins bent in the same direction. reinstall housing and gear case following my dirction in reverse order.
