Hi There,

I've written an extensive repair solution on how to diagnosis Hoover SteamVac's when the brushes stop spinning. A lot of the times the brushes just need to be cleaned, or it could also be the turbine assembly inside.

Here's a link to the diagnosing:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t4286338-hooverspin_scrub_brushes_always_stop

And if you find out that you need to replace the turbine, here's a link that shows you step by step how to replace the turbine:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r4530769-diagnosis_fix_hoover_steamvacs_when

Hopefully these were helpful to you. Please be so kind and rate the repair helpful, or leave feedback for me if you found this helpful. This is really appreciated by the Fixya community to do if this was able to fix your problem, and ensures that Fixya experts continue to post free repair solutions rather then just answering the premium questions.

Thanks so much,

Chris Jones

Could be worms in the brush head, if you don't pop it off and clean it at least once a week they will crawl in there and find it somehow because the smelly dirty water they love so much. Check and make sure you don't see anything moving in them that shouldn't be something that looks like long hair but slimier. I had to toss my whole brush unit & buy a new one, because I didn't want to even try to clean out the nasty stuff. new one works fine and now I pop off the brush after every floor cleaning and clean it good and leave it somewhere clean to dry out

Brushes not turning, 2 inch piec on one brush in place, the housing is spinning but not turning brushes

Hello there! It sounds like you may need to replace your brush block assembly. Try turning that drive shaft connected to the middle brush. All the brushes should be able to do a full turn simultaneously. If the brushes get stuck and cant make a full turn or if all of the brushes aren't spinning together then your brush block will need to be replaced. To purchase a replacement brush block simply follow the link below. Hope this was helpful!

My hoover elite belt comes off within 5 seconds of turning it on

Those machines sit in the box in transit across the world and waiting for purchase. In time the rubber stretches out from just sitting there. In the old days they packed the belt separate from the vacuum and you had to put in on yourself. Today's buyers aren't so handy so the manufacturers are forced to put the belts on before sale. 80% of returned vacuums are due to this! Find the local Hoover Warranty center on the hoover dealer locator at hoover.com and they'll set you up with a new belt at no charge. Good Luck!

Brushes aren't turning. switch is on

Remember that the brushes turn best when the handle is tipped back. If this does not work, remove the brush assembly and insert a flat screwdriver into the square hole that the pin on the brush usually fits into. Try to turn the fitting. If it won't turn, the air driven turbine has seized up and will require replacement.

How to change the belt?

There is no belt on a Hoover SteamVac. The brushes are rotated by an air driven turbine. If the brushes aren't spinning, you most likely need to replace the turbine assembly.

I put a new belt on my vacuum and right away it broke

There may be a problem with the brush roller itself. When the belt is removed and you have the brush in your hand, make sure that you can turn it.

If the brush turns fine, what I suggest is put another belt on, and before you close it up, turn the brush with your fingers. The brush should turn. If not, and I have done this myself before too, the belt may have been caught under the brush and not able to turn at that point.

When you get it closed up again too, before plugging it in, give the brush another turn. Just make sure that it is not pinched by the lower housing too.

Good Luck,
Mark

6 rotating brushes

When you turn on the Vac with the brush strip NOT installed does the part that engages the brush strip turn at all? If so, when you install the brush strip see if the will turn when no pressure is applied to the brushes (tilt the Vac back). If none of this works, then the switch that engages the brushes when the unit is not fully upright may be broken. If the part that engages the brushes turns but won't turn when the brush strip is engaged then one of the parts that mate up it most likely stripped. Let us know what you discover!

Bissell upright vac, brush on bottom does not rotate

The front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.
