Question about Husqvarna 350 18 Inch Gas Chainsaw 52CC Fully Assembled Brand New 18"

1 Answer

Gas not getting through carburetor.

This is a 1983 rancher 50. I've never had to do anything to this saw other than a few vibration bushings, chains & bars. In running it the other day it started acting like it was running out of gas. Now the only way it will start is putting a few drops of gas directly into the piston chamber. It will only run until this gas is used. Carb. is dry.
Can this carburetor be rebuilt. I have not found a total kit for rebuilding yet. If this can be done now much should I have to spend. I know this thing is at the end of its live but if I can spend $20 I would just as soon keep this one. Then if I have to replace carb. for $60 maybe its time to replace saw.

Have you priced a new comparable quality saw? Check the fuel filter for plugging as well as the air cleaner and muffler. Check the fuel lines for hardness, cracking, or splitting--replace with original rubber line, not plastic. The main thing in the carburetor, other than varnish build-up, is the condition of the lower chamber diaphragm--it must be flexible with no holes or cracking. Also check the metering valve which is controlled by the diaphragm. Go to: http://www.drystacked.com for an excellent 12 page article on Walbro brand carburetors, which are in general similar in function to other brands. Hope this gets you running again!

What is the gas / oil ratio mixture for husqvarna 455 rancher model ?

50:1 that's 2.6 ounces of 2-stroke oil (preferably with fuel stabilizer) to one gallon of gas. I recommend using 89 octane gasoline for all small engines. It has little or no ethanol in it, as opposed to the 10% typical in 87 or 86 octane fuel. This will prevent a lot of fuel issues, especially if you are not using the tool daily or at least weekly.

What kind of oil do I need to use in my husqvarna 16" chain saw?

Unleaded fuel with Husqvarna two stoke oil mixed at 50-1, for the chain you need a non fling chain oil, both should be available from your local Husqvarna dealer.

My 455 rancher bogs down when i give it gas it's not even under a load new plug air filter, fuel filter, made carb adjustments like manual said running 93 octane gas.it,s still bogging

Make sure the chain break is releasing all the way. When the saw is not running release the chain break and make sure you can move the chain back and forth by hand. If you can there is a small fuel filter in the gas tank that should be replaced. Make sure the fuel lines are not spongy because they could collasp when the engine is running starving the carburetor for fuel.

No chain oil feed

not sure if the 455 rancher is the exact same as my rancher but when the oil feed on my saw seems slow i remove the chain and bar and clean the chain grove. pay special attention to the end that is near the motor there are a couple of places that allow the oil to flow from the saw body to the chain groove and then subsequently to the chain

Mine are marked "L" & "H". Yours too? They are carburetor mixture adjustment screws.

Fuel Mixture Husqvarna 455 Rancher Chain Saw

Page 17 of your Operator's Manual says 50:1.

Fuel/Oil Mixture
  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 8oz/2gal - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (Stihl 2.6oz/1gal)
  2. Most gas in the US of A contains ethanol; not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few months. Anything over 6 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH

What size file to sharpen chain for 55 rancher

It depends on the chain you have installed on the chainsaw. You can look at the numbers stamped on the drive link side of the cutting chain and it should have a 2 digit number that correlates to the size.

The factory chain supplied with the #455 rancher was a .325" pitch 3/8" chain.

Here's a link to the specs for your saw with some useful info

Hope you found this very helpful and best regards!
