Question about Dell 1320c Laser Printer

1 Answer

When printing on CD/DVD labels the color smears and/or flakes off. I am using "Compatable" toner. Could that be the problem?

Quite possibly. Third party toners can differ in quality. Of course that's what the printer manufacturers would insist the problem is since that's how they make their money

After printing label, the toner smears on the labels. What could be the cause?

1. Make sure that the labels are made for laser printers.
2. Third party toners (or non-Lexmark toners) could also be the problem.
3. When printing labels also make sure you set in printer options that you are printing labels and not just on plain paper.

I'm printing on 110 lb card stock and the toner gets crispy..and actually flakes off on the edges and sometimes leaves smears and clumps of black or burnt toner on the paper. It prints fine on 20 lb paper...

could be the fuser but there is a setting for heavy paper or card stock which will slow it down and increase the heat. depends on your model as to where this can be changed.

My phaser 740 has print that flakes off when you print pictures with real dark areas. I assume it needs more fuser heat or less paper speed. The problem is I can' t figure out how to adjust either of these...

Recalibrate the colors. Flaking is sometimes caused by more ink/toner than can be fused to the media. There's a limit for the total amount of ink/toner. Yours may be set too high.
You'll need a copy of the Printer's User's Guide (also Downloadable from Xerox.com)

Controlling Color Density

When colors look faded, adjust the toner color density to extend the life of the components.

Print and use the Color Reference Page 1 In the printer's front panel, scroll to Calibrate Colors,

press Menu and print the Color Reference Page. 2 Compare the Color Reference Page to the Color Density

Samples on page 39. Make a note of the value (-10 to +10) for each color that most closely matches the samples.

3 Adjust the density for each color: Enter the value noted in Step 2 in the Calibrate Colors menu, under Adjust Each Color.

? Decrease color density: Press . ? Increase color density: Press --->.

4 Reprint the Color Reference Page; check your adjustments

Light Scribe setup does not burn on CD, it colors the CD with ink pattern but not burn picture on CD.

I am sure you have to stick a label on beoire it can print. The ink is not the type that can be used on the CD without the stickypaper label. If the inks smears and can we wiped off then my guess it correct

This is from the lexmark website
"Attention Windows Vista Users
If you have installed your printer on your PC using an original Lexmark Driver CD that came with your product and you are experiencing problems when printing, you may have installed the Windows XP driver.

Follow these steps to resolve:
· Disconnect your USB cable from your printer.
· Uninstall all Lexmark printer drivers on your PC.
· Download the correct Vista driver for your model.
· Install the driver on your PC.

Important - Do not reconnect the USB cable until the install software prompts the question of how the printer is connected."
