Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System

1 Answer

My gs6shexmb00 Whirlpool ice dispenser mechanism is loose and does not close the ice shoot 'door'. I also have a loose part, kind of like a piston (round with a stem that swivals). Trying to find out how to re-attach ice feeder and where this loos part goes.

I just repaired mine. There is a metal pin that acts as a hinge that slips into a hole on one side and snaps in place on the other side. All I had to do was snap it back into place. For someone that is mechanically apt, it's pretty simple to figure out once you remove the cover. To remove the cover work from the bottom with a flat head screw driver. Do not insert it too far or you'll be prying on the dispenser itself.

There's no way to know for sure that yours is exactly the same as mine. There are certainly parts that could break and cause the same problem. When I first snapped it back into place I had the black closing delay mechanism misaligned. It's a very simple piston whose cylinder needs to be perpendicular. Keep an eye on it, or you'll have to remove the cover twice like I did.

The ice dispenser is not working

If your design is the conventional with a catch bucket and auger it is likely that the output has frozen and is prohibiting the cubes to enter the shoot. Remove the bucket and discard the ice. Inspect the shoot in the door and clear any ice built up. Check that the catch bucket auger is free to turn and no built up ice in the output side that lines up with the shoot.

If the door to the shoot located in the freezer door fails to close completely then frost and ice will continue to build up in the shoot.

Cycle by hand a few times to ensure that the door will close. Also when dispensing ice ensure that the arm that contacts the glass has returned to the front position ensuring that the door is closed.

Wait for a new tray of ice. It will take a minute or two for the ice to find its way to the glass from a completely emptied bucket and shoot.

Hope this has helped?

Ed25rfxfw01. I have an ED25RFXFW01 refrig whose ice maker 'trap door' won't shut all the way( about a half inch gap) when you stop dispensing the ice. Tried to take the clear shield loose to see if it was...

Sadly, you will need to replace the entire 'flapper' assembly for this machine to fix this problem. This is the part in question. 8201649 for Whirlpool side by side. However, I would suggest if you can find the entire control panel assembly (which would be MUCH easier and have less chance to break things) to do that instead.

However, clearing the shoot wont do a thing for this issue at all.

Hope this helps ya ^_^

There is a good chance that the clear shield has come out of its mount and is jamming the mechanism. Check to see if this is thae case. It is a bit tricky to get it back in but you should see a tab on the back side of the shield and it clips into a slot on the actuator arm.

Water and ice maker not working line frozen everything frozen even when you turn it down is it the termostat or what

It sounds like your ICE Dispenser door is stuck partway open. Defrost the access door, ice bucket and crusher then check the Ice Dispenser door to be sure it fully closes, otherwise cold air will constantly drift out and freeze the whole mechanism.

Ice is forming around the auger under the ice bin. constantly have water dripping from ice cube shoot

the door that the ice comes down to fill glass is not closing; the ice chute door just above the lever to fiil glass with ice it is either jamed with ice or is broken and needs a new repair kit.you can inspect by opening door and look at approx. 3 inch door that ice falls threw to see if closed.warm air causes ice to form.
