Question about HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera
My computer can't detect my hp r707 camera. It will detect other external devices.
Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

SOURCE: HP R707 Camera, 'card is
I've had problems with SD Memory cards working in all devices initially, but later becoming selective about where they feel like working, and then finally not working in anything at all. The first thing I'd try is another card in the camera. If that card works, I'd consider this problem a card failure in progress.

I found my answer to this on another board. Remove the battery and SD card. Use a paperclip to press in the small siver dot above the + sign for about 10 seconds. This resets the firmware. It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you too.

If the memory card you are using is an SDHC designated card, your camera is probably not compatible with it. SDHC cards are usually 4gb and larger. Check the card for the SDHC label.
