I was trying the same thing and I was sure that somehow in the printer settings I changed it to legal paper size etc. But I tried this morning for an hour and couldn't get it to work and then I also tried on the actual printer in the menu, FINALLY i had a brain wave and went into the menu on the printer "reduce/enlarge" and went to "custom100%" and pressed "ok" it printed legal to legal hope this helps b/c there's nothing worse than knowing it should work and it doesnt want to and if anyone knows what tray is "tray 2" on the hp 7590 officejet pro let me know........ughhhh

Your printer doesn't support Legal size to Scan and Copy, you can scan/copy it by reducing the size of the paper from the menu. 10% will fit since the actual paper size supported by your printer is 8.5X11.7inch while the legal size is 8.5X14inch. Good luck. For more info check out here : http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06b/18972-18972-238444-12019-3328086-2511708-3643610-3643611.html

You can scan to MS Word 2007 as a legal size if you follow these steps.
    Install the patch from HP:
    HPL7590dot4patch_reboot
Make sure to reboot after installing this patch.

Open Word and select blank, legal size. Load legal document into auto-doc feeder. Hold alt button down and type IPS (shortcut keys). A box appears and should have your printer listed. Select print quaity. Select custom scanning. It will start the scan and send it to MS Word. From there you can adjust the image with several tools that are available, print or save.

How to copy legal to letter on copystar CS 4005i

Make sure your default settings are for AUTO paper selection and 100% magnification to start. That is the most common default settings. Then, under "Zoom" change to AUTO magnification and under PAPER SELECTION specify Letter (either landscape or portrait). Now when you copy a legal original (8.5" x 14") it will be reduced at 78% to fit it on an 11" sheet. An alternative is to use "X-Y" zoom. Now you can stipulate 78% for the "X" dimension and leave the "Y" dimension at 100%. You will want letter size paper to be feeding lengthwise (portrait). Now you can copy legals and the image is reduced top-to-bottom only, leaving it much more readable.

Copying legal size on a Brother MFC 7420

This is for a temporary, as needed solution: Press "Menu/Set" button. Select "General Setup". Scroll down and select "Paper Size", find and select "Legal" size. Press Menu/Set button again. Press "Stop/Exit" button.
Insert legal size paper to be copied on the feeder tray and put a legal size paper in the Manual slot. Hit "Print"
You need to do these same steps again to return the settings to Letter size again.

We bought a canon pixma MX870 printer because it was supposed to be able to copy legal sized documents. The cassette on the one we received will not extend to handle Legal Sized paper, and the scanner bed...

Some info from Canon's site in the specs:

Max. Document SizeFlatbed:8.5" x 11.7"
ADF: 8.5" x 14"

This machine can only copy legal documents if you put them in the sheet feeder, not on the flatbed.

As for the paper supply, the cassette is indeed too small for legal paper. The automatic sheet feeder, however, will handle legal paper. That's the tray in the rear that you use for specialty paper; see page 17 of the Getting Started manual.

If you use the ADF and the rear tray, you can copy legal documents. That may not be as convenient a solution as you were hoping for, but it is better than no solution at all.

Trying to scan legal sized document onto letter sized paper. I choose redection legal to letter and it cuts off the bottom portion of the pg leaving me to believe that it is only scanning the letter size...

Try to look at preview first and then see the options you have. I cannot see your screen but you have options in the scanner. Play with them. Experiment and that is how you become an "ace". Better to make mistakes and learn than have some one else tell you how with computers and printers.

Change legal size to letter size

scan it as a document, re-scale it in required size and save then print in required size.

these adjustments are in your word or office programs. if you need to make it to copy, insert your original in the scanner, in paper tray insert your letter paper, select copy and then re-size, this should do it "on the run".

How do i get my printer to print a legal size copy

In your printer settings as you hit print
select the printer setting prefferences
select paper size( change from letter to legal) and your problem is solved
When you copy through the software program from brother you can change this in there. Just redo the prefferences.

Legal Sized 2-sided Copies through Automatic Feed

Does the copier print correctly when copying off the glass? I suspect that the document feeder has been set up to feed other paper sizes eg A4, A4R. Because of the conflict between sizes the copier adjust the image.
