Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer doesn't start

When I press the start button (and keep it pressed) there is a faint sound coming from the timer. Could it be a fuse or is it the timer?

How/where do you check the thermal fuse? Kenmoe 11062922100

Maytag Atlantis Electric dryer. Won't start. The light comes on when you open the door, and you can hear the timer running, but no go. Have checked the circuit breaker, and other 'dummy troubleshooting' in the manual. Where is this thermal fuse??? How do you troubleshoot the switch if necessary?
    Thanks

When the dryer has been running for a while and is warmed up it will not restart. It just makes a humming noise and then an overload or something kicks out and then you can smell something burning.

The faint sound seems normal. Sounds like it could be a thermal fuse. Also if the dryer is electric check your breaker box first.(there are two breaker fuses for electric dryers).... If one is blown then it may cause this problem....... Back to thermal fuse, they are easy to check... If not thermal fuse it could be the start switch or relay...... if you still have problems please respond back with model and make...

Open back of dryer... About 10 1/4 inch screws have to be taken out.. There are two fuses back there... One is slinder and white. ohm it out. Theres another one the size of a dime.... You can always tell a fuse by the color of the wires going to it will be the same... goodluck....

I've changed the belt on my indesit is60v but now it will not start could it be a loose wire? my test pen says power is going from the start button to the timer

Just because power is getting to the switch doesn't necessarily mean the switch isn't bad. It is also possible that the motor or timer is defective.

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

Based on your post I understand you have a Whirlpool dryer that you stated "
set the timer and press the start button, you can hear the timer running but, the drum doesn't and the heating elements don't heat", correct ?

Having said that, by far and away the most common and the first thing I'd look for on these dryers is the fuse which is located on the blower housing, not likely the timer or start switch.

**Unplug the dryer from the wall before performing any service or removing any panels...safety first**

You can use the link below for a tutorial video to locate, test and replace the fuse that is specific to your model.

**please check the part with an ohm meter or "jump it out" (if you know how, if not, check the second link it will show you) before replacing it...the timer or start switch is possible, just not as likely as I mentioned**

Dryer will not turn on although the timer is working

IF your hearig a click when you push the start button then the button and relay are good check the saftey switch on the door to see if it has come loose and follen down or moved back if the switch is not pressed the motor will not work also I have seen the switches go bad you need to unplug the dryer and cross the too wires togeather plug the dryer back in and press the start button if she starts order a new swith. The motor could also be bad you nees to remove the back cover and check to see when the button is pressed if you are getting the correct voltage you will need a volt meter to check this they cost around 10- 20 bucks if you have correct voltage from the wires and the conections to the motor are ok the motor is no good and needs to be replaced hope this helps...

frist check the door switch in sure it is working if it is good unplug the dryer remove the back cover where the vent comes out there is a little white fuse with 2 wires on it. it is oblong and most of the tim the 2 wires are blue replace this fuse and your dryer should work fine.

Kenmore 73954 : Only runs when the START button is continuously pressed

The start button starts the motor heater and energizes a relay that latches closed to keep the motor and heater running untill the timer switch or door switch cut the power to the relay and the relay opens.
The latching relay has failed or disconnected
if all the cables are attached to the relay
replace relay
not an expensive item, usualoly good for 10years
dryer circuits look like this, the start switch and relay are drawn just to the right of the motor, this diagram has no relevance to the physical position of the parts

psrao, right next to the timer under the consol is the even heat board. When this fails, it will cause this problem. This has been an issue with this model. Part number for the board is 3978949. Catriver..post back.
