Water in Washer

Just opened the door and noticed water sitting in the bottom. What is the cause? Where do I go from here?

My washer has developed a constant trickle of water into the basin. It will fill and spill out if I don't put it on the drain/spin cycle regularly. Huge waste of water, not to mention very annoying. Solution would be much appreciated.

The problem can be attributed to a few things. A bad inlet valve (or fill valve), water pressure being too low, or something obstructing the diaphragms in the inlet valve from closing all the way.

If your water pressure at the wall is a minimum of 10-25 psi, you shouldn't have a problem (you can purchase a screw on water pressure guage to determine you pressure). You can attempt to remove the inlet valve and clean it thoroughly, or you can simply replace it. If you're going to go the route of removing it, it may be wise to go ahead and install a new one, so you don't have to go through this process twice.

The part can be found at searspartdirect.com. Just type in your model number and you can find the inlet valve under the "Dispenser" heading as item 1. The part number is 8181694 and sells for $44.49.

If you need further assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Door won't open on my GE gfwh2400lww

Gather towels, shop vac, mop....Open small door at the bottom of the washer on the outside. Remove the small door and cup that's attached to it. Be prepared for a washer full of water!!!!!! Reach in, turn the nob to the left so tht water and debris can escape. You need to do this every 5 loads to keep debris from building up and causing the door to lock.

I have an IQ touch front load washer. lately I have noticed a mildew smell coming from the clothes and drum after washing. i have followed the manual and completed the refresh and comlete cleaning...

Water can remain in ANY washer after the load is done. With a top-loading washer, it's easy to leave the lid up so that the water evaporates. With a front loader such as yours, however, the open door can take space in your laundry area, so we usually close the doors. I suggest that you take a dilute solution of chlorine bleach and water and put it on a disposable cloth and wipe down the inside of your washer as well as the areas around the door itself and the part of the washer that the door closes onto. Once you've done this, leave the door open until the smell dissipates OR overnight. If you will get into the habit of leaving the door open for a couple of hours after you're done with your laundry, you will probably solve the problem.
I really hope this helps. If it does, please come back to Fixya and rate my solution.

We have a Miele W701. We just finished a load of laundry and the door won't click open. The electricity is on and I cannot see any other problem with the machine.

The most common cause for this problem, is the Electro Magnetic Door lock, itself. The part may cost about $170, new. However, you can open the door manually, from the bottom side of the washer. Other causes may be a defective "push button switch," or drainage problem. In a drainage problem, water sitting inside washer, won't allow the user to open washer door, until the water is manually drained out. Good Luck.

Water sitting and mold growing in the rubber gasket ring around the opening for the door

Front loaders are known for building up mold and the smell.
It’s caused by using liquid detergent which is made from animal fat. Use powder. And use the minimum amount.
It’s caused by using fabric softener. Dilute it 50/50 with water.
It’s caused by the water remaining in the tub between washes. Leave the door open to allow it to dry. .
Pull the rubber door seal back and clean the mold off .
affresh is recommended by some manufacturers. You run it through a wash cycle with it.

My GE washing machine smells of meldew, I don't see water in it but when I shake the machine i can hear the water sitting at the bottom. How do i drain this water and also how do i get to it?

IMPORTANT: Read thoroughly. DO NOT add detergent or other laundry products to this cycle.
1. Remove all items from the washer.
2. Open the dispenser drawer and 2/3 cup (160 mL) of liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment. DO NOT use more than 2/3 cup (160mL) of bleach per cycle as this will lead to product damage.
3. Close the washer door and dispenser drawer.
4. Select the Clean Washer cycle or a full wash cotton 104 F wash (40 C). DO NOT use any higher temperature as this will cause unnecessary fumes
5. Press Start and allow cycle to complete.
6. If the bad odour persists, repeat the procedure 1 or 2 more times. This may be necessary if this is the first time you have run this cycle.
7. After the cycle is complete, leave the door open slightly to allow ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
8. Repeat the cleaning procedure monthly.
To maintain the washer freshness:
1. Use only HE High Efficiency detergent.
2. Leave the door open after each cycle to for better ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
3. Use warm / hot water in your machine unless the fabric you are washing requires cold.
4. Use the correct amount of fabric softener.
5. If your laundry room is damp, use a dehumidifier.
6. Clean the door seal of visible residue.

I would check to make sure the connectors to that door lock are all connected. If they are it's probably the lock/switch mechanism itself. Wow I just checked and they are about $120. The p/n is wh10x10006 You can google around for the best price. Good luck!
