Question about Avanti Compact Thermoelectric Refrigerator

Compressor is running, but the box is not cooling.

The compressor is running and the copper tubing on one side is warm and the other side is cold, but the box is warm. It seems that the freezer compartment is cool but nothing else. It has been running for about an hour. Since I just purchased it used I do not know how long it has to run before it begins to get cold inside. When I tilt the unit up from the back the compressor makes a gurgling noise, and stops as soon as I put it down

Sounds like there may be a small leak and you have a low freon charge condition.

I thought that the freon may be low, but I cannot find a valve where I could add Freon. Where can i obtain the appropriate Freon for the Avanti unit?

Hello,

leave the fridge for some time for the gas in the compressor to settle, after like 30 minutes, you can now power on back.

Is the fan running at the back, if yes, then, you will need to check the thermostat in your fridge to see if it is set to cold. I assume you set the air balance control in the refer. section to a colder setting and didn't just adjust the freezer section by itself? Also remember that it takes approx. 24 hours to cycle to a new set temp. so make adjustment and check a full day later. (use a themometer in refer. to see temp). If freezer is a proper temp then the unit should be ok as the freezer cools and then transfers cold air to the refer. thru ports. Make sure these are not blocked.

See the manual for the settings to cold on the thermostat in the fridge, after the thermostat in the fridge is set to cold, leave it and wait for sometime to see the difference.

Please see the manual to see the appropriate settings and standard for your fridge.

Take care.

    Hello,

    If the refrigerator's light
works and you can hear it running, but its not cooling, make sure nothing is blocking the passageway between the
freezer and refrigerator compartments. If airflow is restricted by, for
example, a loaf of bread situated in front of the passageway, the
refrigerator won't get cold. Be aware that a refrigerator will tend to
run longer when it's full of food, the door is opened frequently, or the
    room temperature is hot.

    Take care.

    Hello,

    Look at the condenser
coils, located at the bottom of the refrigerator (behind the kick plate)
or, in some cases, at the back. These coils disperse heat from inside
the refrigerator out into the room with the aid of a fan. If the coils
are dirty, the refrigerator won't operate efficiently. You must clean
    them regularly.

    Try turning the cold
control both up and down. If the compressor doesn't shut off, the cold
control may be broken. Call a repair person. During the repair, it is a
good idea to have the defrost timer and heaters checked to ensure they
    are working correctly.

    Take care.

I have an Amana heater/airconditioner (Prestige I think) that is not cooling. The outside compressor fan was not spinning, so i I changed the capacitor on the unit. It now spins, yet vent air not cold

If that fan stopped your compressor overheated, shut off on thermal overload. Carefully cool compressor with water hose and restart. If the big copper is cold ,small copper warm, compressor is running. Check capacitor on compressor

Start by checking the compressor. If it is running, you should tell by it being warm and a slight vibration/hum....it will start and should run until thermostat stops it. Since it's not cooling, it should be running all the time. There are 2 copper or stainless tubes entering the compressor. One should be hot;the other cold. If both are same temp,or the compressor not running,or is hot to the touch, your compressor is done for(some have a removable connector with contacts that are replaceable) Compressors aren't cheap.

I have a trane xe 800 its blowing air but not cold air, i felt the copper/bronze tube running into the unit it is luke warm also no chill at all. where should i start checking to get my house cold again.

Hello, if the pipe with insulation is luke warm then either the unit is empty of refrigerant due to leak or the compressor is not running at all. Start by going tje the outdoor unitnand checking if the compressor is running, if it is then the unit has no refrigerant, if the compressor is not running then either a bad capaitor orbthe compressor itself might be bad.

My refrigerator freezer does not cool below 70 degrees. I just relace the start relay and now the compressor runs but the condensor fan won't work unless i give it a little spin.

Lubricate the condensor fan with a parifin based oil like Union 76 turbine oil or "Zoom Spout" oiler. These fans are notorious for the bearings drying up on them.

Being careful.... touch the compressor copper lines. One should be very warm almost Hot to the touch.
Also with the unit unplugged..... note that there is a coolant drier with a small capillary tube coming out of one end. Tap the side of this by holding a hammer handle (wood) against it and hit it on the side with a screw driver handle.

Check to make sure the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment is also running when the compressor is on. Anytime the compressor is running BOTH fans must be running. If you can not get the condensor fan up to full speed you will note that the chassis around the door seal area will be quite warm almost hot to the touch and the unit will not be cooling properly. Just for troubleshooting.... direct a fan at the condensor coils and see if the freezer compartment gets cold and that the chassis around the door seals is just warm.

Note about compressors in general.... if you unplug a unit.. it must settle / stabilize for 15 - 20 minutes so that the compressor can restart. Any power off periods less than 15 mins will result in the compressor cycling via the thermal overload every 4 minutes or so... and it does not run for more than 40 seconds when the overload kicks off the PTC relay power.

If you never feel the copper line off of the side of the compressor get hot then the unit has lost coolant.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Why i have high presure in the low presure side

Two common reasons for this.

1) valves weak/broken and pressure is leaking in from the high side of the system.

2) AC compressor is not running. Make sure the compressor is actually running. It has a low rumbling noise to it - and often you'll need to actually 'feel' the compressor for the vibration (of running). Or feel of the big copper line (it should be cool-cold) - or - feel the smaller of the two lines (warm to hot).

good luck

Fridge is not cold

Side by side cooling units usually have 2 compressors, one for the freezer and one for the refrigerator. The refrigerator compressor may be bad, or not pulling enough power, or there may have been a leak in the tubing that the compressor uses to cool the unit with. To diagnose the problem, be aware of the noises the unit makes, and check to make sure it is a 2 compressor unit. If you only hear one compressor running then your compressor is bad, if you hear one running too often, then your tubing is bad, if the back of the refrigerator side is warm but the inside is not cooling down, then the compressor is not drawing enough power. Keep in mind that the radiant heat from the operational (presumably) freezer side may cause the refrigerator side to appear warm. (usually there is a type of wire backing with tubes running along it, these tubes should be mildly warm.)

Kenmore Coldspot side by side fridge/freezer no longer cold.

The black thing is the compressor. It should run warm but not hot. This usually indicates it's time to clean the condenser coils under the refrigerator. Try using a long soft brush and your vacuum cleaner.
