You mean you cannot read the cds ??? ... what happens when you try to open them ... try a right click and open to see if the files and folders are displayed ... then try to coppy content over to your desktop ... also make sure they are compatible ... not trying to open a mac cd with your pc or viseversa

I get a message upon login- error loading winhbe32.rom. what do i do?

I believe you may have a corrupt driver for your cd-rom or dvd rom.
Dell Driver support

Find your DVD or CD device and reinstall your Drivers.
The problem should go away.
If not, you may have a bad driver or cable.

Dell gx60 cd-rom not working . pc would not start windows xp pro have to use F1 key turned off Primary driver 1 and secondary driver 0 and secondary driver 1 pc starts windows without the F1 key but have...

Hi Rose, I'm Fred, and I am a Dell tech. :).
External drives are tricky because the computer may not be able to access them to boot from. Your best option is search for a replacement to the optical (cdrom) drive. Since you are buying one, try to get a dvd burner or dvd reader or cdrom burner. They are usually only a few dollars more, and come in handy down the road. Now, if you cannot get this computer repaired for less than 70 bucks, scrap it. the gx60 is a high-end pentium 3, and not worth much additional money. You can purchase a perfectly good used dell pentium 4 from gearxs for about 80 bucks, with windows XP, and all the basics installed, shipped to your house. the gx60 is not worth a heavy investment, unless you just happen to have the parts and the time.

I want to do a system recovery on my e-machine but I don't know the procedure. Can you tell me how?

boot up with the disc in the cd rom drive.... if it doesn't boot to cd i'll explain that next.... follow the instructions on screen.... if it reboots during setup do not hit any key to start the boot from cd ... be aware there is a difference between system restore and system recovery... the last one usually formats your hard drive so you lose all the data on it.

System wont read recovery cd from cdr/dvdrw for recovery of my pc

is it the recovery cd for that machine. also remove the disk and inspect it for scratches and smudges... fingerprint smudges make it hard for the cd-rom to read.

How to replace CD-ROM in Medion MD40566

Generally what you will need to do is first open the computer case. Then you will see 2 screws on each side of the CD-Rom Drive. You will need to remove these screws. Now you should be able to slide the CD-ROM forward away from the front of the case. Before you completely remove it you will need to remove the cables at the back of the CD-ROM before removing them note the position of them. Now that the CD-ROM is removed bring it to the store and ask the associate for the correct replacement. Once you bring the replacement home installation is reverse of the listed procedure. One thing to not is the position of the Jumper on Slave, Master, or Cable Select. This will be explained on the instructions that come with the new drive. Whatever the jumper setting is on the old drive make sure it is set the same on the new drive. Once this is done turn the computer on and you should be all set. Good luck and keep me posted.

Your CD-ROM may still be functional. The tray may just be stuck, instead of broken. First let's remove the CD.

Get a large paperclip and bend the end out straight. Look for a tiny hole underneath the CDS tray. Push the end of the paperclip into it, and it should open the CD tray a little. Then pull it out the rest of the way and get your CD out. Then try pushing the eject button on the CD-ROM to get the tray to go back in. It may take several trys. If that does not work push the tray in, slowly. Then try the eject button again. I hope that works.

If it does not you can continue to use the CD of course (lots of CD-ROMs have paperclips hanging out of them. And I've seen the problem go away, occasionally, after continued opening and pushing back the tray.
