Question about Memory Cards & USB Flash Drives

XP (SP2) not recognising Maxell USB Flash Drive 2.0

Hi,

Bought the above 2GB flash drive yesterday, however XP brings up the New Hardware Wizard when I connect. It searches for the drivers but brings up an error message saying unable to install.
It shows up in device manager as USB Disk 2.0 but not in My Computer. In driver properties in device manager it states:

This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

However when I try and reinstall the drivers it brings up the Hardware Wizard and the cycle begins all over again.

I realise this is more of an XP related issue however if you have any advice on how I can get the flash drive recognised, I'd be grateful.

Many thanks

Patrick

Patrik it seem like USB conflicts. As XP has inbuilt USB drivers for mass storage and it should recognize your flash memo without creating problem. I think your USB driver might be currepted due installation of other software or drivers.

1). Uninstall your USB driver through device manager. and after re-boot install the drive for USB from your XP CD. this will fix your problem.

2). If step one did not fix then try to install driver from your flash memo if you have any CD from your flash memo or you can try your flash in other computer and find out if there is any driver preloaded in your flash.

Thanks
Iqbal

Bought a maxell 8gb usb flash drive. When I try to use it it comes up with message "insert disk into drive j". Any suggestions?

By trying to use it I take that to mean you go to My Computer and select the drive you believe it to be.

Try going to My Computer with the flash drive unplugged and then plug it in while watching My Computer for a new drive letter to appear. That will be the one to use.

If you select the wrong one you will get the message you are experiencing.

My usb 4gb flash don my computer only reads in a secure K with 1m

See http://www.maxell.eu/FAQ2/FAQ.html

Venture USB contain two partitions - one named 'Public' and the other 'Secure'. Unfortunately we have noticed a compatibility problem between these drives and some computers running Windows Vista. In these cases only one drive is showing in 'My Computer' - usually the 'Secure' drive. As a result you are unable to access the user manuals and software which are in the 'Public' drive and cannot alter the partition sizes to allow access to the entire capacity.

Please follow the below instructions to resolve the problem:

1. Connect the USB to the computer
2. Please unzip and run the attached program
3. After completion please unplug the USB
4. Re-insert the USB to the USB port
5. You should now be able to access both drives.

I want to transfer files from an old desktop running Windows 98SE to a new laptop running Windows Vista Home Basic. I have bought a Maxell 2Gb memory stick: gone to the Maxell eu site and downloaded - as...

It should be unzipped and path to the unzipped folder provided while installing new hardware, when Windows (after plugging in the stick) finds a new plug&play device and asks for the location of drivers.

Also, go to your newer computer and check the USB stick's drive properties - it should be formatted using the FAT or FAT32 file system. If it's formatted using NTFS, Windows 98SE will not see it.

Good luck!

How to recover flashdrive transcened 4gb v30, it can detect but i can't open?

Files on a flash drive can be corrupted if it is not removed from the USB port properly.
Before removing the flash drive click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and then click on the flash drive you want to remove and then remove the flash drive when the computer message says it is Safe to remove.
To restore the flash drive you may need to format the flash drive, but you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.
If you need the data on the flash drive this program may help: -

I have bought a 2GB USB flash drive made by kingston. But iam getting a problem when iam going to use it. The problem is it is not recognising to my PC

Hi abdul_saleem,

If you are using Windows 98 (SE) it isn't supported. Otherwise try the drive in other USB ports on the back of your computer. Install the latest Service Pack for your OS. Verify that the drive is not defective by trying it in a different computer.

Mmeory card

check in your BiOS and make sure all USB functions are enabled.

Next you could remove your USB hub in windows Hardware Mangler (Manager) and reboot and let windows reload those drivers.

Then plug the flash drive back into the USB port and see if it works any better.
