That usually indicates that your ground is improperly connected or faulty. You should have an electrician check your wiring because in the event the unit takes a surge, it will not be able to dissipate it, and will instead absorb the entire shock, usually taking critical damage.
It should however still be able to protect your equipment, but UPS systems are not cheap so ensuring a good ground is crucial.
