Is it gas or electric?if it's gas and the broil works but the bake doesn't you need to change out the ignitor, ovens are electronic ignition now and you don't relight them unless you know there is a pilot, next time send brand name and model number,if there's a storage draw under the oven door, open the draw and look at the frame to the left or to the right of draw opening and you'll see a tag with the model number, most likely all you need is an ignitor, pull out the racks and remove the bottom panel and you'll see the ignitor next to the burner tube, when you put the oven on bake the ignitor should glow red and ignite the flame in less than a minute most times less than 40 seconds,if it doesn't you need to change the ignitor.when you go to remove the screws that hold the ignitor on wet the threds with a wet paper towel and the screws will come out easier than if they were dry

if it's electric you need to change out the element, shut the power down, read out the element with a meter to make sure it's bad,if it is bad get the model number and order a new element.good luck

Our 17year old GE gas oven/broiler stopped lighting today. What might be the problem? Stove burners work.

Most likely culprit is the igniter.
When you turn the oven on it opens a gas valve allowing a small amount of gas to flow thru the pilot light. The igniter then lights the pilot and when the sensor determines the pilot is lit it opens th emain gas valve and the oven lights. If the igniter fails and doesn't light the pilot the sensor doesn't heat up and it shuts down the pilot and nothing works.
The igniter is usually accessable under the oven by removing the drawer. It has a single wire attached and looks like a short cigarette made of ceramic witha metal tip.
You didn't provide model number so I can't give you part number but if you look it up here you may be able to get one from Sears

Im sure its not a piolot.. if your broiler and upper burners have ignitors the oven will also. Most of the time the ignitor goes bad, you need a volt meter to check if you have power to it if you do its bad.

Oven won't get hot

If your oven still uses a pilot light, it also probably has a thermocouple positioned in the pilot's flame path to detect whether if is safe to turn on the main burner. When the thermocouple fails, the oven thinks the pilot light is not lit and will not let gas flow to the primary burners. The part isn't costly (should be <$20 US) but replacing it may require some expensive labor.

Gas stove top works, broiler works, oven does not

is it electronic iginition? are you asking about top burner pilots? if so there are under the top in the middle beteen each side of the burners 1 pilot does burners on right and 1 on left. oven pilots are underneath you have to remove bottom door look in there at back and look up and you'll see it. if its a electronis ignition range you have no pilots!! glow coils and sparkers....

Our broiler, and burners work great. Oven itself has an electric pilot lite that's working but not heating up the rest of the oven. Any suggestions?

I can only assume from your description you mean to say you have a gas range
your seeing an orange glow from the ignitor but your not getting proper heat.
well io would goto
type in your model number
you are looking for the BAKE IGNITOR
that should glow almost white hot,
or if you know how you can check it with an amp probe
it should be between 2.8 and 3.6 to properly operate your gas valve

Where is the pilotlight on a ge xl44 gas stove I belive it is in the door under the oven well I turned the gas on and stuck a flame down there and nothen took off is there a certian place to put the flame....

In general lets be clear. The OVEN pilot is located under the oven door at the top of the Broiler. It is a small piece of metal just before the GAS safety Valve which acts on temperature so gas won't flow unless Pilot is lit,That's the OVEN PILOT.The stove's RANGE is the top burners where you heat Pots and Pans.It has either 2 Pilot lights that connect the burners to the Flame they are under the Range Top.Newer Models use electronic ignitions no flame. Please note if you had your stove/oven disconected or Gas off when you turn it back on there will be air in the line that needs to escape before you light. This is why in NYC when Utility on steet main the MUST re-light your appliances.Be Careful with Gas.Good Luck.
