Help! Epson PhotoPC 500 Problem

By pandamama - usenet poster

I'm having problems with my Epson PhotoPC 500.  It's gotten into a
strange state, after capturing the last hi res image..  My PC no
longer recognizes the camera (nothing has changed in the cabling or
configuration), and the camera's control panel indicates no pictures
remaining and no pictures taken.  A red light remains on in the
viewfinder, preventing any more pictures from being taken.

Has anybody else experienced this problem?  Any recommendations?

P.S.  Epson support is the pits.  It's impossible to call (the line is
perpetually busy), and I've never received a response after sending
two messages since Janauary to Epson's support organization's
(http://www.epson.com/connects/ tech_support.shtml).

This Problem has been added to the Share Your Expertise Page under "My Work Queue".

I had this problem several times with the PPC. I had to sit on the tech
support line for an ave. of 16 hrs. to eventually get an RMA to the service
in Indiana. They reseated the processor unit or the flash memory and that
did the trick. My PPC has been in the repair shop 5 times since I've owned
it (9 mo.'s). Keep your warranty card - you may need it.

Otherwise, its a nice camera. I don't think I'd buy another Epson product,
though.

You are the first person I've heard from that described the Epson Photo PC
500 that way, honestly. About 50:1 for vs against. I have no experience
with Epson tech support but am not expecting much either.

The EPC 500 is a fine camera for it's resolution. It has been favorably
reviewed by several major magazines as a top performer in it's catagory.
The people's opinion has been consistently positive also.

I have taken many shots with the Epson and it's colors are great, the
resolution is as expectd for a 640x480, the LCD works flawlessly, the
software is good, installation was easy. This is a great camera.

Anyway, regarding your lockup up. I would recommend removing all batteries
for a long while (24 hours?). Insert fresh ones and hopefully the system
will reboot and all will be well.
