Gradual dimming of screen over the past month. Longer start up of time of total illumination of screen. Now black screen but the green light is on . Is it a bulb or inverter gone bad? The lcd monitor is a E173Fpf flat panel Dell. How do I know which problem it is and how do I open it with the speakers connected on the bottom front and locked in place? I can get the front panel off but cannot get to the the inverter board that way.
The SPEAKER bar has two fingers on it, you slide out the speaker, I do not remember to slide it to the left or to the right, also for release tab to allow you to slide the speaker out.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.
