Piece of cake. 12" or 14" buy it on ebay from a good seller. then you need a small allen key set to pull out the four screws from the sides of the lid. peal the white cover up by starting in the middle at the bottom. then there will be 4 screws ready to fall out holding the lcd to supports. Pull up that apple shield and be careful because it sticks in the middle. unplug the ribbon cable, and the inverter wire and you're done.

The inverter could be faulty. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp that provides the back light. The inverter is located at the bottom of the LCD screen between the hinges.

New inverter board or new backlight purchase will do the trick old chap. Also, check that the wires are not loose from their connection.

Toshiba M45-S331, Black screen

I just went through all this myself. First I had the inverter replaced ($200) and it worked great for a week, then the screen went out again. It turned out that the LCD needed replaced ($200 more, labor comped from the first no-fix). There's a problem with the Toshiba LCDs that makes them burn out sooner than other brands. Since the replaced screen, no problems (2 months). Sucks, I know.

if you don't have experience on electronic troubleshooting then i doubt that you could fix it.
although it could be simple as to a blown fuse, there are other diagnosis to be done.
i suggest you bring it to a reliable service center/person, have it diagnosed and repaired, if you wish not to mess with it and make greater damage to your tv.

Laptop screen went out/bad

Hi falcon30, first thing I would suggest you do is plug the laptop into an external monitor to check that the graphics card/the laptop itself is functioning ok. All your need is a standard PC monitor with a VGA cable, plug the VGA cable into the blue port labeled 19 on the picture below. Turn on the laptop and if nothing appears on the screen, hold down the 'Fn' key and press f5. If nothing still shows than this suggests a different problem. If it shows ok on the screen however, and boots fine then it would suggest that something has failed screen-wise. This could possibly be fixed yourself if you feel confident enough, but without having access to the laptop I am unable to tell you which part of the screen has failed, so the whole screen part of your laptop would need to be replaced, spares for this sort of thing can be found on ebay, and disassembly instructions can be found at this link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?product=299255&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=299255&dlc=en&lang=en , you need to download the PC service manual. Otherwise you can continue to use the laptop with a normal PC monitor. If you need any more help just let me know, good luck and all the best. Si :)
