Question about Sanyo CLT2054 20 in. EDTV-Ready LCD Television

1 Answer

CLT2054 I have had my TV for about two years. Two days ago a yellow band about 3/4 inch in height has appeared at the bottom of the screen. What would cause this? Can it be corrected?

Do you think this condition will worsen? I will probably have to buy a new TV wondering how long this one will last.

This set has a history of problems that seem to occur around the two year mark. My own experience with this model is with a defective "Ball Grid Array" IC which has balls of solder under each contact point where the device is surface mounted to the Printed Circuit Board. The disadvantage of BGAs is that they do not have the flexibility that a leaded package has under extreme temperatures and mechanical stress, which means that the solder joints can crack over time, creating oddball symptoms like you are experiencing. The short answer is that the board is not field repairable and a replacement board is not available that I know of.

Line top to bottom of screen 4 inches from left side; whole area distorted. appears after tv is on 15 minutes. does not go away. tv is 2-3 years old. was not dropped.

A TV does not to be dropped to get errors. The screen is build up with a a few million pixels. they are switched on and of in lines and rows.
Bundles of rows and bundles of lines have a combined "switcher" If one bundle gets a poor supply (bad contact or defective electronics) a band of pixels will act different or not at all.
I'm afraid it is a normal defect and you need a tech to solve the problem.
Before you order someone to repair, ask what it will cost, because in 3 years TV sets became much cheaper. Perhaps a new one is cheaper than a repair.

Whire vertical band , 3 inches wide with red kine in the middle

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.

Check the cables, connectors and connections.

Take it to a repair shop.

White band from top yo bottom of screen

Good luck with this. If it is under warranty, Sharp will take forever to do anything about it. I had this issue and Sharp wanted pictures of the problem, Pictures of the serial and model number and the receipt. I sent it to them 6 months ago and never heard anything back. If it is not under warranty, this is a major repair and it may cost more than a new television.

The screen has colored vertical lines and becomes to a dark black band about 6 inches of width. The tv is exactly two years old by today.

My 3-year old 52-inch Toshiba flat panel TV (Model # 52RV53U, Serial # AM409000295) developed a display problem (purchased Aug. 2008, manufactured July 2008). Vertical multicolored lines appeared on the screen just left of center. The band of thin vertical bars is 5.5 inches wide. The lines are about 1/16-inch wide. They are stationary, always exactly in same place. They over-ride any other picture on the screen (no transparency). They are there all time even with no video inputs to the TV after the unit is turned on. See picture #1. The TV works well in every other respect, but, obviously, it is annoying to watch the picture with the color band blocking about 1/6 of the picture.

I already swapped out the TCON board with no improvement and replugged the TCON board cables with no improvement.

Most likely it is the flat panel tab bond failure (panel made by Samsung). Further solution updates will be on my Facebook page.

I have a 2 inch black band which appears intermittently dwon the full height of a 22inch JVC lcd television can anyone explain it for me? thanks

If it is black vertical band from the top all the way down to the bottom of the screen, your LCD panel is going bad and you will see more bands and it will get worst.
