I bought my monitor about 2 years ago, just recently it has started coming on with the contrast menu popped up. I tired to press '1' to exit, but nothing works and it won't come off the screen. i have tried unplugging the monitor for a while, and the contrast menu doesn't come on for about 2 minutes, but no matter what i do, it always comes back on. any suggestions?

Re: CM2015 15" LCD Monitor
If your the monitor was purchased seprately from the computer , it might be still under warrnaty.Call Dell and get it replaced. If not, open the on screen menu and try factory reset on the monitor , it tends to fix the issue.
The monitor you are talking about is a philips or a dell
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

It seems to be a hardware issue with the buttons. They are stuck or the rubber cushion under the button has gone bad. That's the reason they are getting pressed automatically. You may take to a local store for a small repair.
sugars_30, You or electronics technician will need to (most likely) fix the units "switch-mode-power-supply" !!! Do some extensive reading in my fixya profile and follow the links to other "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" back-lit lcd monitor tech's here on fixya. They and I already have written tons of stuff that will help you to understand the problem you have. When "strange stuff" starts happening with a ccfl lcd display, the first place to look is at the innerds of the monitor. Just do some reading!!! 12fixlouie
Try pushing the buttons for the brightness if it does the same thing you need to replace it, the buttons might be damaged already by pushing too hard or it got stuck. If this is just a new LCD monitor about 1 to 2 years old contact tech support of dell so you can get this replaced.
my hcl 17inches monitor is displaying contrast, brightness etc automatically in the middle of the screen.even if i press the menu buttons it disappears for a sec and comes again and again.what should i do to solve this?
Actually the button for setting the contrast is a bit loose thats why whenever their is a **** os little movement in the moniter opf ur PC then the contrast button get pressed automatically and the pop up comes up
A friend of mine had the exact same same problem. I think I fixed it, because it has been 2 hours, without the menu popping up. You need to open the monitor:
- Place it face-down on a flat surface
- Remove the cover of the hinge by gripping it with both hands and gently squeezing and pulling.
- Undo the 4 screws and remove the stand (base)
- Undo the four screws tha hold the cover down (4 corners)
- Use a flat screwdriver to seperate the 2 halves (I used 2, a small one to lift the back, a bigger one for leverage)
You will see a small PCB, fastened by 3 screws, at the bottom (where your menu+on/off buttons are) with a ribbon connection to the screen. Next:
- Unscrew the PCB, and gently lift it out.
- Clean the microswitches and the ribbon cable connection.
- Reassemble the monitor.
To clean microswitches and the connection, I used Kontakt Video 90 spray. There must be sprays on the market where you are. It's basically an alcohol-based cleaning spray. Good for cleaning video/tape/floppy heads, CD/DVD lenses, memory modules, etc.
One of the buttons on the front of your monitor is probably stuck. (Only one of the buttons work at a time on most monitors)
I cannot recommend taking it apart your self (have a tech do it) But take off the front, check the buttons after you take off the front, and if it still occurs unplug the buttons from the monitor. If it stops (which it should) replace or fix the controls) If it doesn't, call an exorcist (just joking) or buy a new monitor.
Sometimes over long periods of tiem these buttons on the LCD monitor become lodged and they begin to stick. From frequent use the board that controls these small charges that allow the board on the mother board to know what button is pushed shortout or go bad, the pads beneath them go bad as well. You may want to purchase a new monitor! I repair these all of the time, sometime you just have to say goodbye! Sorry!
Never a good idea to clean with any spray cleaner. The cleaner does get down in the button bar and cause corrosion and shorting along ribbon cable. Use screen wipes for computer monitors only on TV's and any type of monitors. You can remove the back of the case. And remove the button board and clean with a cue tip and alcohol along ribbon cable.
