My Dyson AM01 is making a whining noise. How can fix it? (Calling Dyson's tech support only resulted in a small discount towards spending $300+ on a new fan!) Whines upon starting and will continue for...

Hi Tom,

I'm sorry you're having difficulty.

It is a very difficult thing to try and diagnose something like this without an inspection of some kind and I wouldn't want to speculate on the cause of the noise.

The only option is to speak to Dyson directly again. Please give the Dyson Helpline a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA), 0800 298 0298 (UK). Our experts will be happy to talk you through some further diagnostic checks when you have your machine easily to hand.

Best wishes,

Allan

Whining fan dell E520 computer

Replace the fan as soon as possible. If the noise suddenly stops, DON'T assume the problem corrected itself. More likely, the fan completely froze and stopped spinning entirely and you're at risk of overheating something inside. Generally, there are usually 3 fans in a desktop computer (cpu/heatsink, case, and power supply) and sometimes a 4th fan if the computer has a separate graphics card. Laptops usually only have one fan.

I have a Cisnet C-28 and I'm moving to Australia. I cannot find out if the computer is compatible with 220/240v.. do you know?

Read the Cisnet AC adapter. It should say input:120-240V, 50-60Hz to work with 240v power anywhere in the world. You just need an outlet adapter for the country you're in.

My CISNET desk top power supply fan needs replacing. Staples ordered the part - but I want to see if I can get it faster. Who sells them? Thanks. (I already googled). The hard drive was replaced 4 months...

A power supply is what is called an FRU (Field Replaceable Unit). Generally you don't replace parts on the power supply, it is cheaper to just order a new power supply. Also, office supply stores aren't usually the best places to buy computer parts. Try this place (http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=58&name=Power-Supplies&Order=PRICE). I have bought extensibly from them and have had absolutely no trouble.

Computer makes a whining noise

most likely the fan in your power supply ... might be an auxiliary fan ... could be your hard drive.

In any event ... get yourself a good back up now in the unlikely event it is your hard drive.

These fans are available from computer stores. They are all 12 volt and come in various sizes to suit you power supply case. The fan simply snaps into place.

I have a cisnet computer as of yesterday it would not turn on. i have unplug it for a whole day and turned it on, but did not get any results. thank you!

It is possible that your power supply is not working anymore - that happens sometimes. This is how I would test it:

  1. Unplug the power cable
  2. Open the computer housing (look into your manual how to do that.)
  3. Plug the power chord back in.
  4. Do not touch anything inside of the computer!
  5. If you press the power button, the fan of your power supply should start spinning. If it doesn't, then the power supply is dead.
  6. If your power supply is ok, then the cause is somewhere else (motherboard, harddrive.) Try to listen if the harddrive is spinning (good) or making clicking noises (bad).
  7. Unplug the power and replace the cover.

Let me know what you found out. If the power supply is dead, you have to replace it. It is not worth it trying to repair it.
I'm happy to help.

Fan makes a lound noise and power button is orange

It sounds as if your power supply is cooked because the cooling fan has been running slow

Only way you can check is to take a panel off and hook a voltmeter into the 12v & 5V supplies on the Hard Drive and the Floppy Drive.
