Having changed the os from xp to xp pro i am unable to alter the screen resolution. Any help appreciated.

Go into control panel, click display, settings on the top right, set the color quality at max and the screen resolution also at max, click okay to save settings and monitor should adjust accordingly, if not set monitor to auto setup.

Try to use the System Restore, this process will fix all system errors in your computer.

In your desktop screen, go to:
  1. Start Menu
  2. All Programs
  3. Accessories
  4. System Tools
  5. System Restore
  6. In the System Restore Window, choose Restore my computer to an earlier time.
For example: Today is March 22, try to locate the date were your computer is in perfect condition.

7. Click Next
8. Then you'll see some marked dates
which means those are the dates to use
the system restore
9. Choose a date, then click Next
button
10. Your computer will automatically
restart then wait for the process to
finish
11. A message will appear that states
your computer is successfully restored
12. Then observed the changes in
your computer system

Downgrade dell 1370 (13z) OS from W7 to XP

This can be difficult with some computers. Drivers may not be available.
Is this a Dell Inspiron 1370 with Intel chipset?
There are SOME drivers available for XP with this computer. Please check each driver where it says 'Verify Operating system'. make sure you have ALL the drivers you need, decompressed & copied to a CD, DVD or USB stick, BEFORE you attempt to load XP. Save all your data first!

Here is the Dell link for available drivers:
http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?spf=Inspiron&ssysid=inspiron1370&ssysn=1370&s=gen&c=us&l=en&cs=&ec=&ira=False&cat=sup&subcat=dyd&rf=all&evl=&nk=f&k=Dell+Inspiron+1370&p=1&nf=&rpp=12&sort=K&~srd=False&ipsys=False&advsrch=False&p=1

(Hint: Paste the full link into notepad, make it one line, copy again and paste into your browser)

If i restore my dell inspiron 9400 to its original factory settings will it delete XP updated files received over the past couple of years and will it affect my security McAffe that i subscibe to?

Yes it will. I suggest that you download Windows XP SP2, and Windows XP SP3 and save to an external USB key or burn to a CD-R. If you save the downloads to your HD, restoring to factory settings will most likely overwrtite your HD. So with that. I also suggest that you backup all your personal data, such as documents, pictures, favorite, email contact list, emal messages, and any other personal data that you will need.

Once you have finished the restore to factory process, place the USB key or CD-R in the slots/drive, and install SP2 first, check no restart button, then install SP3. Reboot and now do your Windows Updates.

The reason I suggest sp2, then sp3 before running Windows update, is to save you time getting your unit back in production. If you did a Windows update after the restore to factory process, you would most likely be prompted to download and install SP2, then all the patches and updates would follow fro sp2. This way sp2 updates sp1, then sp3 updates sp2, and finally the updates and security patches for sp3 are all you need.

McAfee - Again download the software to a USB key or CD-R. Before you start the restore, open McAfee, select help, about, and print out or write down your subscription key. You will need these when you reinstall McAfee on your restored unit.

Hope this helps.............

God Bless !!!!!!!

My GX150 is dead!

First of all, GX150 is a PIII with 1GB of memories max.

do you know how to get into the BIOS?

press F2 when you start up the machine. if the BIOS don't come up the first time. shut-down the machine manually and try again.
after you get into the BIOS go though all if the settng and make sure they look OK. (if you have no idea what they are, DOn't change it). and make sure CD is the first boot device. press F10 to save and exit.
insert the cd in the CD tray and startup the machine.
look at the screen, and press enter when the screen tells you boot from the cd.
follow the instruction on the screen and reinstall the OS.
