Question about Cell Phones

Samsung gleam-- when somebody calls, they cant hear me but I can hear them fine? Talked to gleam users and they seem to have same problem and one guy exchanged the phone 6 times before he changed to other phone. Any solutions?

    Have the same problem with caller not being able to hear me on their first call. They dial a second time and that call is fine. Am on my third phone - same problem. Exchanging for different phone or brand today 4-11-08

    I got my 4th Gleam yesterday, and every single one of them has this problem. It is driving me crazy. Verizon won't let me trade for a different phone.

    I am now returning my second Gleam for this exact problem. Unfortunately re-inserting the battery has no effect.

    I am on my second phone too, but it not for the earpiece issue. For some reason my screen would become scrambled for several minutes. The only solution I had was to turn the phone off and on again, and sometimes that wouldn't help. It would happen randomly, and even the salesman had never seen this problem before. Anyone else experience this?

    I'm on my second phone. When I flip open the phone frequently I can hear the caller but they can't hear me. I am wondering if it has anything to do with flipping the top open to aggressively? That could then be a mechanical problem?

    On my 2nd Gleam. Callers call and I can hear them fine but they can not hear me. Upon calling again for a 2nd time the call is fine. Going on my 3rd device maybe. Most likely switching to a different phone

    I have the same problem with my Gleam. when someone calls me , they can not hear me. So i hang up and call them right back abd all is well. I have exchanged my NEW phone 2 times, so after my 3rd one, i am at wits end......

    I am on my third Gleam and the current one was brand new. It just started acting up today after about five weeks. I will answer a call and the caller won't hear me. My wife knows what is going on because the phone will stop ringing but I won't answer. She just says to call her. I hit the callback and get her with no problem. I work with someone who exchanged the Gleam 5 times and finally was given a n SCH-540 which has worked perfectly for him. That's my course of action now.

    I have the same problem and am on my 2nd going on 3rd phone. I called Verizon and they said there has been a software upgrade 2 weeks ago. They are sending me a new phone. Hopefully, this will solve the problem.

    I have the same issue as all of you-I answer the phone and I can hear the caller but they cant hear me. Driving me crazy-took it to verizon store and the reset something lasted maybe 3 wks. Heading there tonight. Tired of the issue

    Same problem here. I am on my 3rd Gleam. Took it in to Verizon last weekend. They said they were aware of the problem and had a software update they downloaded onto my phone. I haven't had the problem since, but it has only been a couple days. I haven't noticed whether there is a decrease in battery life as mentioned in one of the other posts.

    I have the same problem with this phone in Canada with Rogers. I want to smash it with a hammer it is so frustrating.

    It does not help me to turn to the flip open mode and pressing any key to answer.  I am beginning to get anxiety when I answer a call because it is so unprofessional to have to call right back!

I finally solved this problem by switching from the 'flip open to answer' mode to the 'press any key to answer', mode. It may be a bit of a pain since you need to press a key after you open it, but I haven't had this problem again in six months.

One thing I have found that works is, when you answer and the mic isn't working, hit the speakerphone button, talk, than turn speakerphone off and it works fine. Of course, this isn't really a fix, more of a workaround, but I hope it helps someone out there.

As of mid july, VZW had a software update for the gleam. This fixed my phone which did the exact same thing. Unfortunately, with this update my battery life decreased dramatically and I began having issues with my screen. The main screen will stay black when opened.....yeah....

This is a software problem. Remove and re-insert the battery which resets the microphone. Samsung does not have other solutions.

My daughter has a Samsung SGH-A737 slider phone. The problem started out being intermittent but got worse over time. The speaker would go out and she couldn't hear anything when she was on a call. She...

I have samsung e250 with same problem.
sound plays with static, then disappears.
I try to shake the slider or press it hard, and sound comes back.
seems to be a bad connection to the speaker, or maybe a dry solder joint on one of the ICs.

Verizon Gleam Microphone volume not working?


the mouth piece of your phone is faulty. This needs to be replaced for other people to hear you when on calls.

You can use an hands free (ear phone) to make and receive calls still you replace the mouth piece.

Everytime somebody call me or somebody I call i cant hear them...but they can hear me and my volume is on

Check your phone's speaker still working or not. You can use avometer to test your phone's speaker. Setting your avometer to X1. If the speaker damage,you have to replace it.

take all the screws out and then carefully pry it open. it will seem like it wont open but it will. then the ribbon will have a flap to enable it to be free

I called verizon after not hearing from you in 48 hrs. They had it fixed in 5 min. For FREE! The verizon tech wanted to know your company name. Said she was going to report you to her supervisor. She said she had no knowledge of your company. They have their own techs for free when you buy a phone from them.
