Cannot upgrade Memory on Compaq Presario 2110US

Want to increase memory from 512 to 1 gb. Best Buys sold me a 1gb PNY. Computer would only register 448mb. Added 1 of the old 256 cards and computer registered 768mb. Best Buys traded for two 512 Kingston 2700 cards. These would only register 448mb. Even the Geek squad tried and suggested possibly a different brand would work. Is it possible to upgrade this machine (manual says so) and if so which brand etc would you suggest. HP web site says "None available".

The model is Compaq Presario 2110US. I can try again to buy 2- 512mb and put one in at a time but not sure that will change anything. I will try a different brand however. As to the BIOS. The "memory" option under the bios would not highlight so I could access it, thus I was unable to even try and change it. Thanks for trying-hard to solve something you cannot see.

It is a laptop with two slots and max memory 1024mb. Original equip. with 2-256mb chips. Manual says use C2100, was sold C2700 and was also told that souldn't matter. But since they didn't work I will try for the C2100. The two I HAD from the store fit just fine and allowed the computer to work but did not increase the memory. It still registered 448mb.

Hi Rileysue ... what is the model of your HP? ... the ram modules generally have to match each other ... brand should make no difference at all .... start by removing all of the old and add one stick of the new ... you may also have to go into the BIOS each time and verify the change in ram size ... then add the next stick and so on...

I bought an Acer AO532h-2964 netbook, and I'm wondering: can I upgrade the RAM from 1 GB to 2 GB, and if so, which memory chip should I buy?

yes you can, your netbook can have a max of 2gb ram and a max module size of 2gb.
So you have 1gb pc 5300(ddr667) installed, and you can buy 1 more 1gb module, laptops use sodim.
Aria.com has a 1gb stick for £25

you could also try play.com / amazon / ebay

Sistem is very low on virtual memory

There are to ways in order to address this.

The first step is of course to increase the amount of memory your computer has...you can go to www.crucial.com and the site will run a scan on your machine and provide you options and pricing.

The second step is to increase the Virtual memory size in Windows,

Step 1. Right Click on My Computer and go to Properties

Step 2. Click on the Advanced tab, and under Performance click Settings.

Step 3. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Virtual Memory, click Change.

Step 4. Click on the drive that contains the paging file, usually C:\

Step 5. Under Paginf file size for selected drive, click Custom Size

Step 6. For Initial Size enter 1.5 times the amount of Memory you have installed on your machine right now

note: 1000MB equals 1GB, 1500MB equals 1.5GB

Step 7. For maximum Size enter double the amount of memory you have installed on your machine.

Step 8. Click OK to close the dialog box.

Compaq EVO N1020V Not reporting RAM correctly

This sounds as thought he RAM is faulty.

You need to have installed 2 x 512 MB DDR 266 SoDIMMs and not 1 x SoDIMM.

If you have placed 1 x 1Gb SoDIMM in ther EVO this would account for you only seeing 480Mb of RAM.

Why won't new PNY DDR memory work in eMachines W4630?

Read your manual, as there website does not offer it just driver downloads.
Also, just because it is the same kind does not mean it will work.
That is why most MFG of motherboards have a quality vendor list
for memory. There are thousands of people who can't get some mfg's memory to work with there systems when the specs are the same.
But I would go with what Ultim said and there might be a slot limit.

Memory upgrade on presario 4403us desktop

Hi yes thats correct you can have only 512mb RAM. This is due to your motherboard limitations or bios limitations. The only way is to change the motherboard this will allow you to also have latest usb 2 support. Just buy a motherboardboard thats compatible with your processor and existing memory.

SAMSUNG 1GB RAM 400MHZ PC3200

RAM has to be

Four 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets

Supports PC3200 (400 MHz) /PC2700 (333 MHz) / PC2100 (266 MHz) DDR DIMM type

Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory module is 1 GB

Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory is 4 GB
It has to be the same.

• If you are replacing a memory module, put the
new memory module in the same memory slot
from which the old memory was removed.
Or
• If you are adding a memory module, install the
new module into the socket nearest the
preinstalled module, and install additional
modules in the next available sockets
