Hi rajamke, that statement (PCI simple communication controller modem driver), means your modem is missing it's driver software. If you have a driver CD that came with the PC you should be able to find the driver. There will be more than one. You install the driver that matches your Windows version.

Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "IBMSupport" or "Lenovo Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the Modem drivers and any other driver you need. I think the pci simple is the modem or chipset driver.
That would mean you need a modem driver installed for that PC, or your modem is bad. Now this is refering to a dialup modem not a broadband modem.Goto Dell website and under support you can enter your PC moodel number and download the Communication Modem Driver. I have provided you a direct link below:
The reason for these 2 big question marks is that Windows device drivers for the sound card & modem are not installed. If you don't have the drivers for these 2 cards, let me now the make & model, & I can find them for you.
I suspect your existing dialup modem is in an existing PCI Slot on your motherboard, remove the existing dialup modem and "snap" your new one in it's place.
Use the software that came with it to get the correct drivers to work on it, (though I do believe XP and Vista will install without special drivers), but having the correct one for the modem you put in will insure it's working properly.
Go to www.support.dell.com and select "I'm looking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have the proper version of Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installed return to "drivers and downloads" and enter the "service tag",(serial number) of the 820 laptop. Dell keeps a listing of drivers for every customer's computer they sell. The PCI device, simple communications controller is your dial-up modem card.
