Question about JVC HD-61FN97 61" Television

Dark Blotches A dark blotch, approximately 3" in diameter, has appeared on the upper right side of the screen. The blotch looks like a spot on a wall that has been struck by a wet ball. It is extremely visible on a light/bright screen, not on dark screens. Its not on exterior, and on light screen I can see makings of several other blotches. What's the fix?

It was dust on the lens. Thanks for advice! A couple of more blotches had occured prior to 'fixing.' Again, advice was right on target.

I'm experiencing the same problem with dark blotches on the screen. I purchased it in Dec 06 and the blotches started appearing a few months ago. I cleaned the blub/projection lense with a dry cloth and used Q-Tips on the inner mirror lense. It seem to lighten the blotches but didn't completely remove them. Would it be advisable to use rubbing alcohol or vinegar with a soft cloth?

I have the same thing on an JVC HD 61FN97 rear projection. Did you just use a dry lens cleaning cloth or some type of cleaner also?

We have the same TV
the dark spots will continue to grow (and multiply) as you use the TV, as they are caused by dust accumulating on the screen from the TV's cooling fan system.

Only way to get rid of the spots is to remove the screen (after you power it down and wait an hour for things to cool properly, unplug the TV and carefully remove the screen and clean it with the proper methods (screen cleaning equipment computers etc)
there will be some wires still attached to the screen once you get it separated, so go slow, steady and you will be set.

Good luck!

This is probably caused by dust, either on the mirror, lens, or possibly inside the light engine. There is a 5" dia hole on the side of the back of the tv where you can take out one screw and take the door off. this is just big enough for you to put your hand through to clean the mirror and lens. Hope this helps.

Hi , it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. Here's how your tv works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine replacing the bulb will not solve your issue. Have a blessed one!

HI, I have a NEC monitor 1760nx, dark blotches on the screen

Listen, for what it is going to cost you to fix the unit, you are better off replacing it and having a new warranty to boot. Simply not cost effective to repair given the cost of a new monitor these days.

Macbook screen blotches

If you go to turn on your laptop and loads to your os and the spots on the screen remain there then most likely you have ruptured the liquid crystals in the screen by pressing too hard when you were cleaning the screen with the computer off. you could lightly touch the black spots with your finger and if it displaces the black with a white halo effect around your finger (DO NOT PRESS TOO HARD OR WITH FINGERNAILS DIRECTLY ON THE SCREEN) then it will mean that you will have to replace the screen because it has busted the crystals definately. suspect the optical engine. are they present after initial turn off before the blinking light comes on and the cooling process starts? if so then it will be optical engine issue. can be very pricey by the way

Dark Blotch on rear projection TV screen

usually these are caused by cleaning the screen with a damp cloth or fkuid rear projection tv's usually have two plastic screens separated by about quarter inch with bulbs between, one being a magnified screen.problem is,condensation can occur causing various blotches, letting the screens naturly dry out usually solves this but failing this you have to strip down and wipe them with clean dry cloth.be careful though the inside screen is very delicate.

Dark blotches / Dirty behind screen

it could be dust in the mirror or in the optics,in this set if im not mistaken you have acces to the mirror from the back, anywhere from 12-20 screws it sould be easy to remove plastic cover first and the the mirror.this mirror are very delicate you dont want to leave fingr prints on it it will show just like the dust is showing right know. taking the mirror off will also give acces to the lense.
use someting soft to clean it.
