Depending upon the "age" of the drive, internal to the USB enclosure, it will have either a SATA or PATA connections. If it were mine, I'd dissasemble the enclosure and install the drive in a computer as a second drive, and then extract the data. Of course that won't help if the drive itself is defective, but there's a good chance it's the USB electronics, or even the power connector (inside the enclosure).

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

How do I get data off verbatim 160 gb hard drive that the mini usb port broke off?

Your best bet is to buy a donor drive of the same make/model, remove the circuit board and install it on your broken drive - get your data but don't try to continue to use it after that because it will
fail.

MACs does not recognise windows NTFS format. So backup the data (if exist) and format drive to FAT32 or ExFAT.

use the source (pc/Mac) that created the data to remove it.
you will need to re-format to get it to work on the machine you are currently trying to use.
(personally I always remove all partitions and format to "fat" (remove factory) this will make the drive work on Mac as well as pc)

hope this helps

try downloading puppylinux 4.3.1 and burning to cd. then boot off the cd whilst verbatim is plugged and try to mount drive sda1 you can then copy data off or simply use puppylinux to access and use the data. NB this should not affect you windows unless you choose to install puppylinux, you dont have to to do this.
