Question about Compaq Armada E500 Notebook
I have a broken usb port (only one on the E500). Is it a big job to replace & does anyone have the knowledge to enable me to do it?
Many thanks in anticipation.
Have you heard of a pcmcia usb card? This is your solution. You can get some for like 10-40 dollars at NewEgg.com and other places. Most stores like tARGET AND bestBuy don't have them, yet and if they do, they are ridiculously expensive and not well supported by those tech guys. Go to NewEgg.com and purchase one. You can plug usb flash drives and other usb devices into a pcmcia slot - where your old wireless cards would plug into before laptops started becoming popular with internal wireless cards built in.

If the usb connector / port is only damaged it should be a fairly easy task.
Your going to need a few screwdrivers to get the laptop open
and a soldering iron, to remove the port or ports connector(s)
from the motherboard then replace it with a new connector.
if the motherboard is damaged you would most likely have to replace the whole motherboard and that would be way too much money for a few usb ports.
the usb connector only has 4 pins

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
