In response to se2000, the missing letter was a 'b'.
    The monitor is a E173FPb

I just opened an S761 LCD monitor with the same symptom of the green power LED turning on and off at a slow rate and the screen shuts down just as it starts.

The problem is, at the least, defective capacitors C16, C16, C17, C20, C21 and C22. The problem can be seen by looking at the top of the capacitor, where the pressure relief slits are, there you will notice a slight upward crown indicating they have built up pressure. Alternatively you can look at the bottom of the caps. to see if any have started to lift due to the bottom rubber seal pushing outward.

Not sure why the caps. went bad yet, could have been a surge or defective caps (higher than spec'd ESR), but I quickly checked the rest of the circuit, including the rectifier diodes and it all seems OK.

Will replace the caps. to see if the problem goes away.

Don't know what message you are referring to. Which e173fp do you have, there is another letter that identifies manufacturer.

The most likely problem is the output transistors. Best place to get parts is ebay. You need to know how to solder. VERY IMPORTANT. You'll need some soldering tools. Or you'll have bought parts and have a piece of junk. I once made the mistake of bridging two pins during soldering and it still appeared broke. So if you have the skill or know someone, thats great or could make a deal with a tv repair guy to put the parts in for you. It could be such a mess that'll I'll pay for monitors that have not been attempted more than one that someone tried and failed.

Still could use a clue on getting the screen opened up to get at the Capacitor

Repaired E17FPc... Mine was doing the blank screen with the flashing green power on LED. I replaced C922 (1000uf @ 25 volts) as it was visably bulged and the monitor is fine now. I put a used capacitor in there that is temp rated at 105 but all I had was a 35volt part.... extra measure of protection being slightly over voltage....

Works great!

For this model, the most likely culprit is the driver transistors. You'll need to replace 4. Hope you have very good soldering skills as a botched job could render the monitor useless. I buy untouched monitors much more readily than ones that were attempted repair.

My Dell E173FP monitor will not come on. I have unplugged and replugged the cable from monitor to hard drive case as well as the a/c power cord. I have rebooted the computer several times and all I get on...

The dreaded blinking green led without a display, means that the backlight circuit has failed on this monitor. Typicalll the transistors that drive the backlight transformers short out and fail. I have fixed this on my monitors twice. Very common failure for this monitor and can be fixed quite easy if you know how to use a soldering iron and a meter. They even sell a repair kit on ebay that provides parts to repair this monitor. Just go to ebay and search e17fpb repair and to find it. Hope this helps.

Screen Goes Blank

Ive seen this on other monitors. Look for a 1 and 2. Some monitors do NOT auto detect a signal, and this one might not. Look for a way to set the monitor from Digital input to VGA input. Try that and see.

Dell monitor shows blank screen, green power light stays on

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitorswill blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts calledcapacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you aregood at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should workfine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and -connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one thesame way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Monitor went black

Same with mine a couple days ago. I've been told the contacts have oxidized and need to be cleaned. It was going to cost about $80 to fix and no guarantee how long it would last so I just bought a new monitor.

Flickering switch light, blank screen

Hi, First of all it is not advisable to open up monitors without proper tools as they contain hazardous elements. Dell monitors however do have a 3 year SEPARATE warranty. Check on the back of the monitor and look for the monitor serial number. is should start with CN-xxxxx-,, or JP-XXXXX-. give that to a dell tech and they should be able to replace that.
