If it's pretty new (less than 2 years) you might be able to get free service or free replacement. Apparently this is a common failure with this model. If it was me, and out of warranty, I would spring for the $100 or so and get a new one.

To fix this problem you wuold have to replace the centrifugal actuator assy. part cost less then $8.00. not that hard to do the repair work yourself, if you are a handy person.

How does the bottom plate come off a badger garbage disposal

Hi, the only plate that should be removed on the bottom is for wiring the power cord to the unit. If there is water leaking, specifically from the bottom of the unit, it's leaking through the enClosure assembly which is not serviceable. If the unit isn't that old it might just be leaking from the sink flange or mounting gasket at the top of the unit which at times can be difficult to detect. Or possibly the gaskets at the drain assembly for the unit. Hope this helps ;)

Disposer is leaking at the power cord under the unit. Fix or replace?

Unfortunately, if there are no other signs of how the water got to that point to leak it usually means it is coming down through the motor seals. Replace.

I have an in-sink-erator model 1-81 which is leaking from the power cord attachment area and from a small rectangular metal piece mounted on the bottom of the unit. Replace or repair and is this possible?

The unit's seals have failed. The metal piece covers the box where the cord is wired to the motor, meaning the motor above it is already soaked with nasty water. It's definitely your best value replace the disposer. If you get another insinkerator or one made by insinkerator (whirlpool, kenmore, etc) you can hook up the new one in three easy steps.

Water is coming out the bottom of my Badger 1 disposal. Solution???

Check the fittings, the hoses could be loose... If the leak isn't coming from there then you have a seal leaking or a rust through that is causing water to leak and would need to replace the disposal.

In sink erator is leaking from bottom

I had this happen right before my disposal stopped working completely. Mine was leaking from the same place. The one I had was a 2 year Badger. They are easy to replace. If yours still works I would keep using it and just sit a pan down below to catch water. A new Badger 1 year cost $80 at Home Depot. If you get one, do not worry about buying extra gaskets or the black sink strainer thing because the new one will come with everything needed except for the plumbers putty. You will need plumbers putty. Good Luck
