If the frost is on the lower rear wall of the freezer you most likely have a defrost problem. If this is the case you will need to turn the unit of for at least 24 hours to allow the frost to melt. UNPLUG your unit and remove the rear lower panel of the freezer exposing the coils and melt any remaining frost. If you use a hair dryer be extremely careful as the plastic liner will melt at a very low temperature. Take a meter and set it to ohms then see if you can get a reading across the glass tube located at the bottom of the coils while the freezer is warm, if you do you need the main board. If you do not you will need to replace the glass tube which is your defrost heater. Both are linked below for this model PSS26MSRASS. The model you gave is missing a letter.

GE Model TPH 21 PRSM WW does not turn offf

Many things that could cause the problem First if you just plugged it or have little in it, it will run for a long time. Next check if if it is cooling properly place a thermometer in a liquid it the refrigerator compartment it should read around 42 degrees. If it is warm in the refrigerator compartment Look at the freezer back wall for frost buildup If you have frost on the back wall, you will need to defrost it and repair the defrost circuit. This is a. Common problem on GE models If the temperature is good in the fresh food compartment you will probably need to replace the thermostat or cold control

My GE 2008 side by side , the freezer is working but the food storage is not help ?

one of 2 things can be wrong,#1) if theres a heavy frost buildup on the rear inside wall of the freezer compartment then its a defrost issue, which will block air flow to the refrigerator side, take off back panel and test defrost heater and thermostat both on evaporator coil for continuity, thermostat has to be below 32 degrees to test good, most of the time its the hearter on G.E.. #2)if no frost buildup, then check the damper vent door between the freezer and refrigerator compartments and make sure its not stuck or broken shut and can no longer open and close to keep temperatures in refrigerator cold

My 5 year old GE GSH22JSRSS Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator recently stopped cooling. I noticed a build up of frost on the freezer, so unplugged the fridge and let the ice melt away. After this,...

The problem you describe is that your defrost circuit has failed. The fridge should stop the compressor periodically and turn on the defrost heater to melt the frost buildup. Since the frost in building up on your coils, the fan can't blow the cold air into the fridge compartment. It defrost is controlled by a module that turns on the heater. Most of these failures have to do with the defrost heating element burning out. It can be replaced by someone who has some mechanical ability.

The coil and heater is located in the back of the freezer compartment behind the panel in the back. You can obtain parts from appliance repair outlet or online like appliancepartspros.com or repairclinic.com.

Have a GE side by side gsh22sgress unit. Child left freezer door open. Unit ran for days (in non-occupied appartment). Meat thawed. Cleaned unit inside with mild soapy mix. Unit runs but will not cool...

Open door let too much moisture into refrigerator. (The cooling coils, behind the back wall of the freezer compartment, are blocked with frost) If you unplug the refrig for a day or so it will work again, or you can take the back wall out from inside the freezer and melt the frost with a hair blower.

Freezer at 21 degrees , refer at 44 degrees, will not get any colder.

If your model number is the Profile/Artica PSS26 model the most likely reason for this is a burned out defrost heater. Look into back of the freezer and tell me if a layer of frost is building up on the rear wall of the freezer compartment. If yes then unplug and remove the rear panel in the back of the freezer to expose the evaporator coil. If frosted over then you need to defrost with a hair dryer or leave a bucket of hot water in the freezer compartment until the ice melts away. Sometimes the defrost drain is frozen over and then the beginning of the frost becomes heavy quickly and temperatures begin to increase in both sides of your side by side. Lately I seem to be here and ge no response from anyone. I want you to a the least let me know if you need my help to resolve this. Sometimes the main control board causes this but not as likely as the defrost thermostat and defrost heater. Sea Breeze

GE TFX20JR BK WW side by side won't cool or freeze

First point: The entire fridge is cooled by the freezer section. A fan blows air across to the food section.
2) Every 8 hours or so, a timer shuts off the compressor cycle, and starts up a heater to defrost the freezer coils. If the heater(s) are burnt out, or if the safety thermostat (to prevent overheating) is open, then you will have no defrost. The coils will frost up and eventually prevent airflow to the food section. Milk goes sour.
3) In rare circumstances, the timer itself can stall. This cause the same symptoms as above, but this is not as common as the other 2 causes of No Defrost.
Sequence: Check heater continuity. Check safety thermostat continuity while cold. Check defrost timer operation.
Hope this helps. I am a journeyman with 39 years exp. Happy New Year.

FRESH FOOD COMPARTMENT TOO WARM

it could be a defrost heater problem . the heating cycle is not defrosting the ice that is why your having frost build up. the heater could be damaged, thermosdisc damaged, electronic timer module damaged.try thawing it up by unpluging it for a day or two until there is no more water dripping at the back then try it again, im sure the refrigerator section would cool again for a week or two before it wouyld go back to the same problem. dont forget to bring back the setting to 5 for freezer and 35 for refrigerator in order for the thermostat to work.
