For me to help you better I woudl like to know the make and model of the notebook that you are working on. Also if you can give the info on the old and new drive as well this will better help me see what needs to be done with your drive replacement.

Note with modern notebooks they will change the casing on the drive to maek it fit into smaller cases. So the replacement you got may not fit if it was not designed for this notebook.

Hello,

Flip the laptop onto its back so that the battery port is facing up toward you. Push down the battery latch and then slide the battery out of the laptop's case.

Set the metal plate back into place, and reattach the screws. Slide the DVD drive back into place, and reconnect its screw.

Return the laptop to its original upright position and open up the display lid. Power on the laptop.

Take care

I have a toshiba satellite P-205. I took out the DVR original that came factory installed. It is a labelFlash DVR-K17TBF I am trying to put it back in and I can not fiqure out how the 2 side rails go...

You just mount the Drive in the direction as shown below, dvr-k17-tosh.jpg You need to keep the Machine (your laptop) in the position so that it stands upward, like this, img_22101_laptop-toshiba1_428x320.jpg and insert the Drive in the same direction, Good luck.

I think your talking about an old 90's Toshiba laptop but let me know if this actually is a dvd player
i own one of these laptops
it does have a funny power switch it is located on the left-side of the laptop behind a small cover about 2 inches in from the back of the laptop slide the cover back and there is a horizantol striped button press and hold and it will boot now if you can't move this cover there is a locking feature located underneath were that switch is there is a small locking lever make sure that is in the unlocked position or you will not be able to slide that switch cover back

Mintek portable dvd player

With the power turned off, open the DVD Player, and then open the top where you load the DVD into the player. Locate the laser lens and notice that the laser is attached to a transport assembly that moves the laser diagonally outward in a slot. 1. Slide this assembly outward to the end of its track. 2. Slide the assembly back inward to the closest inward position. 3. Repeat the process of sliding the assembly outward and then back inward.4. Put in a music CD and let it play all the way through. This helps to calibrate the laser head assembly movement. When the music CD is finished playing. 5. Put in a DVD, and you should have a working unit again This is a factory solution from Mintek that was given to a customer who ask for help with the forever loading disc problems. This solution may work on other models of portable DVD players. Most portable DVD players use this type of transport mechanism. Try this solution it might work for you. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

Bearings on the right side upper rack slide

I removed the plastic bearing holder on the under side of the slide. I know it did not fix the problem, but it eliminated the bind that would not allow the rack to slide out completely. Thanks

Dvd is not working, tv work just fine

My grandson's Lightning McQueen dvd player was acting up. The tray would come out about a 1/4 inch and then go back in. Once I got the tip on how to remove the case, I was able to access the dvd player. You must remove all four screws from the bottom of the unit. Carefully remove the smile from the front of the tray. After that you can slide the black tabs toward the front and get to the dvd player. To remove the dvd player, first carefully disconnect all the plugs from the back of the player, better to use a needle nose pliers than to try to grasp each connector with thumb and forefinger as you might inadvertantly pull a wire out of it's connector plug.. Now on each side of the player are two detent tabs. With two small pairs of pliers or needle nose pliers, pull the detents out a little on both sides and then the dvd player will slide out. It helps if you have a third hand to pull the player while you gently pull the detents out a bit. Once out, I removed the four bottom screws and the two top ones that are under the silver tape. Lift up the top from the rear and slide back a little then off. Once the metal cover is off, you must remove the four screws that hold the plastic part of the player to the metal base of the case. I discovered that the tray had jumped off it's track, or rather was probably forced off it's track by my grandson's pulling or pushing the tray too hard. If the tray comes out manually, then the small drive belt from the slide motor is probably suspect. Replace the belt. If the belt is ok, but the slide is off it's track, then carefully pull on the sides outboard from the tray, I was able to put the tray back on it's track. It's a small white pin or tab that rides inside a long track on one side of the tray. Leave the tray slide out while you are putting the four screws back in holding the player to the metal base. Put the metal top back on with the open end on the slide end and press is down onto the metal base. Replace the top two and four bottom screws. Before you slide the player back throught the detents, aim the extended slide throught the slot in the front of the case and snap the smile back on. If you don't have the slide out and it gets pushed back into the player, the slide will lock in and you won't be able to snap the smile back onto the front of the slide. After that you can pop the players notches back into the detents. Plug all connectors back into the back of the player. Align the tabs through the slots on the bottom of the unit and slide them back until the four screw holes line up. Put the four bottom screws back in. Put the cover back on allign it so that the two screws that go to the case on each side that were hidden by the fenders. Replace the top two screws and the two counter sunk screws where the video and audio inputs are on the back. Replace the wheels. Each wheel must go back on it's correct side, Line up the tab and the space in the back of the wheel and push the wheel back in on each side. Replace the three screws in the middle of each wheel and put each fake lug nut back into place. Use a small pair of pliers to gently squeeae the tabs of the lug nuts so that they will go in the slots easier. Plug the unit back in, turn on and after you select dvd, then you can press the open/close button for the tray to come out.
No parts were needed, as the one small drive belt that comes off the tray motor had not stretched or broke. Great patience is needed just for the removal and replacement of the back of the case.

Trying to take my cd drive out and put in a new one but the old one will not slide out and I do not see any screw that need to be removed

If it is a normal PC, there should be 2 screws on either side of the drive that have to be removed before the drive can come out. Many times you have to remove both sides of the computer case to get to these.

This can vary however from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some put the drives on what are called rails where, if you release the rail it will simply slide out, other times only one side has screws.

If it is a mass manufactured PC (DELL, Gateway, HP, etc.) you should be able to find a manual on their site that would help.

Disc tray doesn´t open, no help from previous answers

One thing you can try is to disassemble unit and remove tray section . on the underneath side of tray is a plastic gear that will allow you to manually bring out the tray thus removing the dvd . then put back together and see if it works ok . Or just may only have to remove the spindle adaptor on the top of the dvd with the screws on the side that hold it down . then remove the dvd , put back together and try . Some disc's that a dvd player cannot read properly can cause the system to lock up as you described . Good luck

RE: Putting whirlpool washer back together

ok I know this is a problem heel i had trouble doing y first few but i learned a trick 1. make sure your front feet are off the ground at least 1/2 inch if they are rusted or broken place a screwdriver under the black rails. ok 2. wirh the cab. in front of you open the lid andhold it under that lip tilt it forward and then slide it toward the unit look down the lid hole you want the front edge to line up first as you slide it down there are two flat pins sticking up on both sides about 7" back fron the front corners these must fit into the cabniet you then drop it down slowly put the left clip on first then place you hand down the back right side pull it forward and install your other clip one note the fill dispenser will need to get under the cabniet before it will seat properly. connect your lid sw and close the console. let me know if this works and please rate this help
