1 Answer

I want to install a Super Talent IDE SSD drive in my Dell D610 but it won't recognize the drive.

My Dell Lattitude D610 will not even see the drive when I try to use it as the main hard disk. I have a rosewill USB drive cable I can hook it up to and it works fine that way on the same computer. The bios do not have a way to select that type of drive. I thought because it is PATA Ide it would work but it doesn't. I think my only hope would be to find BIOs for this machine that will accept the SSD PATA structure. hanks for replying to my post. Any ideas?

Hmm, did the drive come with a few pins to be used? The pins, when attached correctly would make the SSD either slave or master... it could be that currently its set as slave, hence the BIOS would make some problems... have you tried that?

I just bought a Dell DHS computer without a harddrive at a yard sale, how do I install a hard drive for it

First you have to make sure you bought the right kind of hard drive (IDE or SATA) to make the installation and connection easier. IDE drives have a set of prongs or pins that stick out. SATA is the later type and does not have prongs or pins sticking out. You just turn the laptop over and remove the cover where the hard drive will be housed. Usually it will have an icon of 3 circular discs on it. Most laptops will also require a Caddy that the drive sits in before it goes into the laptop. And some might require a interface.

I suggest you look on ebay and see if your computer's make and model requires a hard drive caddy or interface.

In the search box just type your computer's make and model followed by hard drive caddy. Example: Dell Latitude D610 Hard Drive Caddy

In the search box type this is see if it requires an interface: Example: Dell Latitude D610 Hard Drive Interface

I have an asrock 775vm8 motherboard. Can I install a ssd drive?

Yes, your motherboard should have 2 SATA ports, however, the SSD won't perform as fast as it could in a newer motherboard. You'll also most likely require a power adapter (molex to sata).

I have a Dell Mini 9 (910) that is painfully slow especially when installing a application or program. I really believe the problem is not RAM or CPU because I see plenty of usage available. I have been...

accually ssd are very fast compared to hdd's your ram mainly means how much simultaneous thigs can be running CPU is like the heart every peice of data runs through it. the problem occurs when installing so this means its would be your cpu or you chipset(thats like smaller less power full CPU kind of) and the chipset usualy high end if the cpu is. which means you either have stuff constantly running that hogs up your cpu usage or your chipsets drivers are not up to update drivers first press windows key+R then in the box type devmgmt.msc hit enter a window will pop up and if there is a unknown devices section you should see smbus controller right click it then go to properties click update driver or reinstall driver if it doesnt work you need to manuely locate your chipsets driver online...if programs are hogging you cpu then u need to regularly close items in your taskbar that arnt in use do this by right click exit also if you press ctrl+alt+del it brings up the task manager and you can manuely close processes be carefull some of these are essential Ex.-lsass.exe will make your computer crash if you end process. good luck

My d610 does not recognize my cd drive

Is the USB-compatible drive recognized when connected to some other computer? If OK, then the drive is OK.

Is _ANY_ USB device (memory-stick, camera, mouse, keyboard, printer) recognized when connected to any of the USB ports on your computer?
If not, then the USB device-drivers for Windows have not been loaded.

Drastic: backup all your data files, bookmarks, and music, to an external hard-drive, and reinstall Windows from the Dell-provided "System Restore" set of CD-ROMs.
