Question about Toshiba Satellite A100-S8111TD Notebook

1 Answer

Windows Vista won't update.

I have Windows Vista and there have been some problems. It keeps telling me that "Windows can't check for updates". and i turned my firewall off and tried again, and it was a no-go. I almost couldn't turn it back on. It took me a couple hours. Then it tried to tell me that it couldn't find my proxy server, and i use a lap top, so i know i don't need a proxy. Anybody have an advise.

You can perform system restore first to isolate the unnecessary add-ons and malware that preventing your computer to do a windows update. after doing this and still same thing you need to reinstall the windows OS.
Here's How:
1. Navigate to the Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools program group.
2. Click on the System Restore program icon.
3. Choose the Choose a different restore point radio button and then click Next >.
Note: The default choice is Recommended restore. This restore point is probably the most recent automatically created one and is likely the best choice. However, for purposes of demonstrating the entire System Restore process in Windows Vista, I'll be continuing with the longer process of choosing a restore point manually.
4. Choose the restore point that you want to use.
Note: Check the Show restore points older than 5 days checkbox to see more than the most recent restore points.
Note: Any restore points that you created, scheduled restore points that Windows Vista created, and those created automatically during the installation of certain programs will be listed here. You can not use System Restore to undo Windows Vista changes to a date that a restore point does not exist.
5. Click Next >.
6. Click Finish on the Confirm your restore point window to begin the System Restore.
Note: Windows Vista will shut down to complete the System Restore so be sure to save any work you might have open in other programs before proceeding.
Important: System Restore will not revert any of your non-system files like documents, email, music, etc. to a previous state. These types files are completely unaffected by System Restore. If your intention with this tool was to recover a deleted non-system file, try using a file recovery program instead of System Restore.
7. Click Yes to the Are you sure you want to continue? dialog box.
8. System Restore will now restore Windows Vista to the state that was recorded in the restore point you chose in Step 4.
Note: The System Restore process could take several minutes as you see the "Please wait while your Windows files and settings are being restored" message. Your computer will then reboot as normal when complete.
9. Immediately after logging in after the reboot, you should see a message that System Restore completed successfully.
10. Click Close.
11. Check to see if whatever Windows Vista problem you were troubleshooting has been corrected by this System Restore.
12. If the problem still persists, you can repeat the steps above and choose another restore point if one is available.
13. If this restoration caused a problem, you can always undo this particular System Restore.

Check the status of the printer at Control Panel. Set it to online if it's shown as offline. If this doesn't fix the problem, check whether installing the vista driver available at your printer manufacturer's website helps.

Step 1:
a. Click Start, go to Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound.
b. Click Printer.
c. If the Printer is offline, it shows "Offline" status. If the Printer is online it shows "Ready".
d. If the Printer is offline, set it to online.
e. Right-click on the printer and select "Use Printer Online".
f. The display should change to ready when the printer is set to online.

Step 2:
If still you are facing issues, then update the printer driver. This should fix the problem.

Vista won`t update has 8024404 error

Try reboting your computer, if tha does not work, Go to Microsoft.com and contact customer service and tell them about your problem. Also, you can try to download Service Pack 2 or 3.
Before you do this, you may want to try to go to the Control Panel and click on the System and Security option and click on "Find and Fix Problems" and follow instructions, or click on the System and security and check the :Action Center" or "Windows Update."
Explore this page, you will probably find a solution for your problem. You can also try to "restore your computer" to an ealier time. The one you will find under the "Action Center.
I hope that this info will help you to resolve your problem.

Reinstalling the wireless adapter

vista have this problem...

first, switch off computer and remove physically card from the computer, then de-install all possible traces of it, run ccleaner and clean the computer as well as registry.
go to d-link site and download newest drivers for your adapter, and os (vista). unfold software to c:/dlink

switch off computer again, re-install card and re-power the computer.

when automatic software install start, select manual install, point to newly created folder c:/dlink and select appriopriate driver from there, install.

this procedure usually solves the problem, vista try to instal generic windows drivers not specific hardware drivers, to prevent occurence of that, disable automatic updates in vista, and once a month or so, do only and only security updates from windows, never, ever update your hardware drivers from windows as these are just generic drivers generating more problems than solving. hope this help.

Windows Vista Problem

To Update Windows Vista you need to use Windows Update which is located in the control panel. Once you have open windows update click Check for updates and then click view option updates. You should then see Microsoft Office 2007 Service Pack 1 in the list. Download and install this Service Pack and see if this correct the problem
