Question about Yamaha EF2400iS Portable Generator

1 Answer

Ejecting oil I started my generator after it was sitting idle for an hour or so and oil came leaking out the bottom. Maybe half of total oil. I refilled and started it again. Sputtered a little and is now working fine. Could that oil have come out the crankcase vent or.....?

More than likely it came out of the crank case vent. Your intake valve could have been stuck open (for some reason) which pressurized the crank case.

At idle, why does speedometer show about 5 or 6 miles per hour and the odometer shows the mileage going up while sitting still?

Could be a bad instrument panel(IP). Rough idle in gear could be a vacuum leak. Maybe a tune up.

Only Suggestions .
control any slidingcontact in the electric field .
If the engine has the other lower rpm after the use maybe A canister cold spray can give a result if you spray on voltage regulator or other parts of the electronic ?

Other posibility can be sludge inside the oil carter that will have pistons with blocked oil control pistonrings if they sitting full of grey sludge that will heat the motor, how old is the oil ? if there is enough oil inside.
disconnect the oil protection circuit if that was also in good condition
to get differend behavior of the output.
sludge in airfilter float chamber or nozzle .

It will start for a minet then shut off and wont start till it sits for a half hour

Check to see if the fuel filter is clean or change it. If the screen in the bottom of the gas tank is clogged, that will do it too. If those solutions do not work, check the oil level and condition of oil, if it is low or dirty the low level switch will shut it down.

I have a HD 2003 Deuce -- It's ejecting the oil temperature gauge from the oil tank and splattering oil every were. Normally takes place during starting. Why?

There is too much pressure in the oil system. This problem is usually caused by too much oil, or a clogged oil line. Did the bike sit for the winter and the oil level seemed low when you brought it out of storage, so you added oil to the tank? If so, the bike "sumped", meaning oil from the tank drained into the bottom of the engine. Putting more oil into the tank caused an over full situation and that is why the dipstick is popping out of the tank. If this is the problem, siphon or drain some oil from the tank and run the bike until all the oil is out of the bottom of the motor. Then change the oil, adding the correct amount to the tank. DO NOT drain all the oil from the tank before running the bike!

EM 3500 Will start, then stalls after 30 minutes, starts again and continues to staff after 5 to 10 minutes. Oil is fine.

With regrets, I do not have any personal experience with generator troubleshooting. However, I have been informed by some people that have good experience with them that a generator needs to be run for a couple of hours every month to keep the system in proper order. Should a generator sit idle for ten months, the fuel can actually "shellac" inside the carburetor and lines. This will then travel to areas that will gum up - thus the necessity to drain the tank and carburetor completely.
Here is their advice:

Your service person(s) may not be aware of the time the unit sits idle, and if they are aware - then they are not giving you straight facts (in my opinion). I would suggest contacting Honda customer service directly, and explain this situation to them - they will probably be more then happy to have a technician assist you properly. Contact the 'customer relations' number, and they will direct you from there. Here is the link:

I am sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I have gas getting in the oil what happen have not ran it in two years maybe 12hr on this unit

Hi, It is the piston rings. They are not sealing properly. 1 good trick is to put a shot of diesel in the sparkplug and let it sit over night. In the morning start as usual. This will help loosen the rings and stop the leaks. There will be a bit of smoke when you start it up. This is OK. Good luck.

Loosten the oil filler cap before putting it away. The tank is pressurized to force oil to the chain. Relieve the pressure before storing. Lou
