This appears to be a unusual problem but it is not.

If you had a power outage even if the set was not on at the time it can affect the set. The set has a microprocessor that looks at things every time the set is turned on or off.

Even a brief interruption in power can "confuse" the set.

With set turned off, UNPLUG TV FOR AT LEAST TEN MINUTES and then plug back in and see if all returns to NORMAL.

I would hope it does as the other possible cause is something serious is wrong with the microprocessor circuitry in the set.

Let me know if it fixes the problem or not.

All buttons work except POWER on my remote control

This is likely to be the most comon button usedvand therefore your problem could be general wear. The construction of most remote controls are pretty simple. Remove all visible screw s and batteries and pry sides apart. Buttons are usually a single layer of rubber with a conductive pad underneath that makes contact with the pcb below. Cleaning the area on the pcb where the power button makes contact and the bottom of the rubber button, will in most cases resolve your problem, was h the rubber button sheet with soapy warm water is ok. Obviously dry throughly before putting back together.

I changed tv's and everything works except the volume buttton on Dish remote. It won't turn down or up or Mute.

I came across your post, autumlite; that's interesting! I have a few steps for you to follow to get that taken care of so you can start enjoying the convenience:

Address To Other Equipment Using Power Scan
  • Remote: All Remotes (except Basic)
    1. With the desired equipment on, press and hold the correct Mode button until all mode button backlights illuminate, then release.
    2. Press and release the Power button. AUX Mode: Before pressing and releasing the Power button
      • Press 0 for a TV
      • Press 1 for a VCR/DVD
      • Press 2 for any other device
      Then Press STAR (*)
    3. Press the Up button once a second while pointing the remote at the desired equipment. Note: If the code for the equipment comes up, the equipment will power off.
    4. Press the POUND (#) button. Note: If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
Hope that helps and let me know if you need any further assistance!

The on / off button on the remote does not work. Will a new remote take care of the problem?

A new remote should. It could either be that the remote is broken or the receiver on the tv. Make sure that the tv works with other buttons such as volume and channel. If everything except the power button on the remote works, just get a new remote.

No response to any button on remote or tv except power button

Press the 'Favorite' button on the remote. You may have accidentally pressed it. It locks the channel. Pressing again unlocks.

Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:
NOTE:
Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.

1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet for 4 hours.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

hope this may help;

Remote Control

From GUEST: I found this solution in the manual and will perform this task again to see if I can get the tv will be re-recognized again. Give this a try, too.

Remote will not turn on or shut off the TV.
• You must program the converter box remote in order to control your TV power button.
• To program the remote control:
    1. Determine if the TV is a model that can be controlled by the remote control. See "Controllable TV brands" on page 17 in the manual.
    2. Turn on the TV.
    3. While you press and hold TV POWER on the remote control, press CH ^ or CH v one or more times until the TV turns off. Each time you press one of these buttons, the remote control sends a manufacturer code (between 1 and 45) to the TV.

Tv remote control

There is most likely dirt below membrane preventing contact. Remove batteries, open it up, wash rubber membrane in warm water with dish washing detergent, dry it completely. Also, use some alcohol and cotton sticks to clean contact on the remote control board.
