Re: DVR won't turn on. TV screen is black
This can be a variety of different things, ensure television is powered on, what color light do you see on the front of your DISH Network 311 receiver? The green light is the one you should be seeing if the receiver is in fact powered on. If the light is not on even after pressing the power button on both the remote & the receiver, then I would recommend checking the source from which the receiver is plugged in, is it plugged directly into a electrical outlet on your wall, or is it plugged into a power strip? If wall outlet, perhaps try a different outlet and see if that makes a difference, if it's plugged into a power strip or surge protector unplug from wall and unplug receiver from strip for 30 seconds and reconnect checking to see if issue has been resolved. While checking these things, I would also recommend double checking to ensure nothing may have become disconnected and that all cables are connected from the back of your receiver to the back of your tv and to the wall and they are hand tight. Are you able to access any of your previous recordings?
Try unplugging the receiver for 10-15 seconds and plug back in. The receiver will reboot itself for you and should restore functionality of the DVR. If that doesn't work the hard drive has likely failed and we would need to send a replacement receiver.
When you had the black screen on your TV, did you have a banner on the top of the screen displaying the channel and information about the channel? If so, then unplugging the receiver from the electrical outlet for 10 seconds and plugging back in will resolve that issue.
If you had the black screen without the banner, it is a different issue. Please let me know if you had any other messages on your TV screen (No signal, weak signal, etc.).
You have indicated that you have a 622 DVR receiver, since this is where your posting was found. When you trying any of the DVR functions on the remote, do you get an error message (024 or 311) indicating that the function is not available at this time? If not, try unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds from the electrical outlet. This will reboot the receiver and re-acquire the satellite signal. Once the picture returns, try the DVR function. If the problem continues, please call 1-800-333-3474; we may need to replace the receiver. I hope this helps.
common problem on 625 receiver. Have you hit menu 6-1-2 to enable caller id? If so call Dish and have them send you a new receiver out and give it a try. I'm sure it won't work every time, but it has to be better than what you have.

Did you have a power outage last night or lightning strike? If not unplug the receiver for approxiamately 30 seconds and plug it back in to the wall plate. Try to turn it on now. If it fails to power up it may indicate that the receptacle is bad or the receiver. Swap the plug from the receiver to the known good outlet the tv plugs into and try to power it up. If it fails the receiver is dead and you will need a new one. 510 are due to be discontinued with Dish so your local provider may not have one to replace yours with and you may be left with the option of upgrading the receiver, seeing if Customer Service can send you one out if you have a warranty program or buying one from a retailer or online.
