My AV-10 seems to be working fine except when I'm watching/listening to something in Dolby Digital, I only get the background channels and effects; no dialog. If I press the DD button on the remote, it converts to "downmix" and I get the dialog but lose the surround sound. It almost sounds like a stereo signal without center channel.

I've checked all connections and tried a variety of fixes, without success. I also tried to boost the level on each output but the center channel at +10 still isn't loud enough to push the dialog over the other channels.

I'm beginning to think it's a receiver problem, not "operator error."

    Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

continuing last post ... forgot to mention that I'm taking an Optical signal from a Direct TV DVR directly into the AV-10.

I have the same problem. I get very faint audio from the center channel. When I run the test tone, it is still very faint out of the center channel. Speaker and wire all work fine.

The same thing happened to my Nak AV-10, brought it in, turned out soldering on the inside for the center channel had to be resoldered.

Could be the speaker, try connecting another speaker and cable and see if it improves. If the problem is still there and you've checked all the settings insuring that its not turned down, then could be an internal problem with the receiver.
Hope this helps a little at least.

No audio from Nakamichi av-10 receiver. Checked all connections and speaker buttons. Even headphones don't provide any audio

There is a protection circuit in that unit. It has a relay that is either dirty or has detected a fault that might or might not be there.

Nakamichi AV-10

The contacts in the switch are probably oxidized or warn out. More than likely it is oxidized.

You can get some switch and control cleaner from most any electronics poarts supplier.

You have to open the reciever to get access to the noisy switch. You would then spray a little of this cleaner in to the switch. Then work the switch back and forth rapidly to clean it.

If this does not work, then the switch would have to be changed.

If you don't feel confortable to do this procedure, you can bring the receiver to a service shop. They would be doing this type of service routinely.
