Hi
basically you should have a system restore feature in start menu, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore.

it should let you go back 3 days, but results are not guaranteed, what do you need to do exactly?

Good day. I have a Gateway m-1625 (reconditioned). About 5 months ago it started to give problems when booting up. When powered on the hard drive would be engaged & then it would shut off. After...

check the BIOS version, if there is an update for it on the gateway site apply it. a checksum error in CMOS BIOS cannot be overcome and you will always have to deal with this issue if no bios updates are available. There is a slim chance that you can revert back to an earlier version.

Have you tried it on another computer? if not please do it. Your monitor problem seems with the CPU not booting up properly. You can also try with another monitor on the computer. Please confirm after you are done with the results. Thanks.

Add on PCI-E video card doesn't work

I would check the BIOS To check the boot order preference to see if you can tell the motherboard to Force Starting up with the PCI-E Slot.

If the slot did go bad, most likely you would see the system crash instead of just automatically going back to using the onboard video card.

Sounds like the computer is coming from sleep, standby or hibernation mode. Go to the power settings in the control panel, and disable all of these options. Disable your screen saver as well. Leave the machine on for a day and see if it happens again after this. Post your findings, please...

Virus on computer

In order to remove really nasty stuff (like Trojans and the like), youhave to run a virus scan BEFORE your operating system loads.

What helped me was Kaspersky's Rescue CD, which is a bootable CD. You can find it here.

A good description how to do it can be found here.

If the virus is "well written", it will not let you restore to a previous point. Download the CD, burn it and start your computer from the CD. (You might have to change your BIOS settings to do that. In order to access the boot options, pressthe F10 key while the Gateway screen is displayed during the startupprocess. This opens a Boot menu with the option to start the computerto any of the available drives. Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys toselect a menu option, and then press the ENTER key to start to theselected device.)

Download and install ccleaner, do a clean up with it, it should remove temporary and useless files and you should get some room back.

My gateway 700 xl doesnt boot

Unplug the power from you 700xl and from you monitor. Try removing the cmos battery and reinstalling it. Then, plug everything back in and try restarting. If it continues to give you the yellow light, you may need to replace the CMOS battery, especially if it is more than two years old.

Another thing to consider is if your power supply is underpowered for the number of external devices you have plugged into it (i.e., cd, dvd, external hard drives, printers, pci cards, etc). Gateway installed very low powered power supplies in their 700xl desktop computers. Usually only around 250 watts maximum.

If you are replacing the power supply with another 250 watt maximum power supply, and you have a lot of external devices plugged in, you may need at least a 350 watt power supply....if your CMOS battery is not the problem.

NO BOOT

I believe you power supply is bad and needs changing,,
however try this first before changing the power supply
unplug your system.

1.) Open up the computer
2.) remove the memory
3.) Remove the mainboard battery 4e78012.jpg see the silver pin to the right> pull that ayaw from the battery and it will popout

4.) hit the power button 5 times
5.) put your memory and battery back in
6.) put your powercable back in and try booting it..

IF THAT FAILS,, REPLACE YOUR POWER SUPPLY.
