    Hi there

I have this camera and use rechargeable Uniross batteries for it... it now works fine. It needs powerful batteries as the screen uses up so much juice.

I use Energizer e2 Lithium batteries and these will power the camera for the longest time. They are expensive, but they will last much longer than anything else. The battery meter in the camera display will show FULL up to the the time these batteries will no longer work, so always have fresh ones available. Since these are not rechargeable, I set the camera battery type to Alkaline, although I don't think it makes any difference.

In the menu, there's an option for "batteries"- make sure that's set to Ni-Mh

I dont' recommend this Samsung S1050 camera to anyone that doesn't have a box of brand new never used major brand alkaline or recharge-ables, because it won't even power up, and if it does, it will just shut back down again,,,never ever ever use this camera for weddings, graduations or any event where you will need the camera on for any length of time...it just wont last. Extremely terrible battery design for a camera which is more like a television on steroids, not energy efficient!! It really should have had four instead of two batteries.

Please forgive me if I am being stupid but those 2400ah batteries have to be charged before use - I assume that was done.
The first thing I would have done would be to try another set of alkaline batteries as the originals could be discharged.
This is solution is probably too obvious to be true but then you never know.

My samsung s1050 keeps locking up intermitantly. beem stays on.lens freezing.have to re insert batterys over and over to get working. any ideas?

The Samsung S1050 is very battery hungry - make sure you use very fresh new batteries, rechargeable are great - the higher the mAh rating the better. I use Intec rechargeable batteries which are rated at 2900 mAh. If you do use rechargeables, you will have to set the appropriate menu setting for battery type to reflect the type of batteries used.

Wont switch on seems faulty button

Hi. The batteries you use make a huge difference when using this hungry beast. If you use Alkaline batteries, use the most expensive ones you can afford, or if you choose to use rechargeable ones, get the highest mAh rated batteries you can find.
I use a brand I purchased on an on-line auction site, called Intec rated at 2900 mAh. They take an absolute age to charge, but the result is worth it.
Also, make sure the battery type is set correctly in the menu. I don't know if that makes a difference, but it would seem strange to have a menu option for no reason.
If you use poor quality batteries, the green led may come on but faintly, and the lens will not come out correctly.

I cannot download my pictures from my Samsung S1050

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

S1050 Samsung crashed?

ok, i had a similar problem I had normal batteries in there... cheap ones... and accidentally set the battery type to NiMh in the camera settings... it wouldnt turn on after that. Make sure you try NiMh batteries in case that might be your problem. Another thing i have noticed (may be just my camera) is that it doesnt want to work if its cold....
