This was working fine until it wouldn't switch off with the power button the side. so i pushed the soft reset button on the base of the unit but still no fix, so i moved the hard reset switch to the left then back to the right, now the display lights up with some text on the top
i presume it is waiting for some sort of operating system or boot image to be loaded into this navman pocket pc even if the supplied navman MMC card with the maps is inserted then nothing happens.
if i plug the sync / charger usb cable into the pc, then a new device is found, but drivers or software cant be found for it on the supplied CD's or the microsoft site. the new device comes up as

i installed microsoft active sync off the supplied CD onto the pc, but it wont see the navman device connected to the usb port. the newly installed SmartST software cannot see it either.
I cant find any support on the navman web site for this problem.

RECENTLY I DID PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING
SO HERE IS WHAT I DID :
" I TURNED IT ON AND HIT THE HARD RESET AND THEN LEFT IT ON TILL ALL P[OWER WENT AWAY FROM UNIT
SECOND I HAD TO DOWNLOAN A NEW VERSION FOR MY UNIT ; MEANING MAP
THEN I TOOK THE BATTERY OUT AND AND PLUGED IN MY USB CORD AND IT TOOK IT
I PUT MY BATTERY IN AND CHARGED OVER NIGHT AND WELL IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT TO DO BUT FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND MY DRIVER GOT BOOTED OFF THE UNIT AND ANOTHER DRIVER FOR A MODEL WAS ATTACHED
HOW I DONT KNOW BUT MY UNIT WORKS NOW FOR THE LAST 4 MONTHS NO PROBLEMS

Slide the Magellan GPS unit's power switch to the off position, if your GPS has a two-way slide-style switch. Hold the switch in the off position for 8 seconds or more to reset the device.
Slide the switch to the reset position if your GPS has a three-way switch. These switches feature "Reset," "Off" and "On" labels. Hold the switch on the reset position for 10 seconds to initiate a reset.
Inspect your GPS for a reset pin hole if the unit has a push-down power button rather than a switch -- check the bottom and sides of the device for a pin-sized hole. Insert a pin or a straightened paperclip into the hole, pushing until you feel a slight pop. Hold the pin or clip down for 10 seconds and the GPS will reset.
Depending on the power switch your unit was designed with follow the instructions below:
Slide Switch If your unit has a Slide power switch then slide and hold the power switch in the off position for more than 8 seconds.
Push Down Power Button If your unit has a Push Down Power Button for a Reset pin hole on the bottom or on either side of the unit. Take a pin or an end of a paperclip and insert it into the hole and push in until you feel it pop slightly, hold it for 10 seconds. Your unit will reset itself.
Reset Power Switch If your unit has a Reset Power Switch then it will have a three position power switch (Reset, Off, On), if this is the case slide the switch to the reset position and hold it for 10 seconds to perform the reset.
If that doesn't work, contact them direct. sometimes they have to install clean firmware.
Hello, my W6761 becomes the same. When it happens, you can clear the problem by "soft ware reset". Following is the procedure: 1. Power it on 2. Push Start/Stop buttom 5 times 3. Push "Enter", ">", "<", "Menu" buttons (from right to left) 4. Again, push "Enter", ">", "<", "Menu" buttons 5. Wait for 30 seconds that the above soft ware cycle resets the internal status 6. Power it off and on, again 7. You need to execute above "soft ware reset" within 15 seconds
Start washing and check to see if above reset the problem. If it does not begin to work, repeat above "soft ware reset" cycle until it begins to work. My W6761 once needed to repeat above cycle 7 times to solve the problem. This problem happens in mostly in warmer season, so this will be related with high ambient or water temperature. ASKO technician may replace the controller but even with the replaced controller, this problem often happens.
You'll have to do a hard reset. Push the reset button, then hold the power button until the Palm Power appear and then release the power button. Next it will ask if you want to erase the data. I hate to said this but select yes. No will not work. Then after the inital set up run a HotSync.
if you mean the phones password the only way is a hard reset, remove wait 10 seconds and replace the battery. If you mean the sim password/Pin contact your service provider (company who supply your sim)
Hard reset press and hold the two soft keys (the two buttons with a "-" each side of the navigation keys) while breafly pressing the power switch then follow the instructions. If it boots up as normal, remove the battery and try again.
NOTE this will remove all data and restore to the installed rom
