Question about Microwave Ovens

I have a JES9800BAB Jenn-Air range. I broke the smooth glass cooktop, I have the replacement top from Jenn Air, but I am unsure how to get the top off. There are 6-7 perimiter screws. I can get them off. Don't know how to release the hidden screw. Can someone walk me thru it.

I have a JES9800BAB Jenn-Air range. I am replacing the cracked glass cooktop. I have the replacement cooktop and it has a bracket 2-3" forward of the downdraft vent on the underside. I can get the 6-7 perimiter screws off easily. Don't know what is attached to the hidden bracket and how to release it. Is it accessible if I remove the front control panel?

Remove the screws from the plenum area at front of the opening then open the door. Remove the screws securing the maintop to the oven chassis located on the bottom of the control panel and along the outside edges of the maintop.

Label the element wires before disconnecting and remove the screws securing the element mounting brackets to the maintop assembly. Install the brackets into the new maintop and reverse the given removal procedure above to reinstall the maintop assembly.

I did not understand your first sentence? There are no screws in the plenum from the downdraft slot. I also do not understand the 'open door'. Can you give me a little more info. Thanks.

I mean the opening of the plenum area and the door of the range. Here's the service manual and the exploded diagrams for your reference.

I don't know about a hidden screw but I always slide the oven out from the cabinet so I can access all the screws.

Thanks. Got it about the perimiter screws that will be visible when I pull it out of the cabinet area. The replacemet cooktop has a bracket about 2" forward of the downdraft cut out. It cannot be accessed from the downdraft piping nor the front. My guess is that it is secured to something. Not sure if I have to take the front panel to access it.

I have a old jenn air wall oven and a old jenn air microwave mounted on top. it was a countertop model. when i removed it it was plugged into the top of the oven. would that be a 110 appliance outlet?

The Jenn Air microwave that is mounted above the oven in your unit is 110v 60Hz. The socket in the upper rear right corner of the oven is a 110v 6Hz socket and is where the microwave would be plugged in. If you are going to replace the microwave, you can plug it into that socket. If you would rather not use that socket, you will have to drill a hole in the side of the cabinet holding the over/microwave to get the power cord out.

Replacing the ceran glass maintop

Actually if you've removed the 2 or 3 screws at the front (underside) of the cooktop, you can lift up the front. Prop it up with a board, and then remove the 4 screws that hold the 2 brackets that hold the 4 elements to the cooktop. Now pull the cooktop forward a bit, and you should see a green ground wire attached to the back of the cooktop. If not, then don't worry about it! Just pull that cooktop up and off the range. You will need to transfer the 2 tabs in the back of the cooktop, and the silver steel bar located at the front of the top to the new cooktop. Then reverse the process to install the new cooktop and re-fasten the elements to it.

I purchased a house w/ a Jenn-air elect. drop-in range. The Model # is 87946 or 87847. I believe the range was originally purchased in 1975. I am in need of an instruction manual .

Neither of these are a typical Jenn-Air model number. http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/product_literature/search.jsp?siteCd=JA_EN_US suggests that the model number is on the back wall under the burner on the right side of a drop-in cooktop. For a range the model number is often on the frame inside the oven door, below the vent or on the back of the top of the range.

87946 or 87847 are the part numbers for the cartridges (the elements or the surrounding housing).

Look at the model number locations at the "Help me find my model number" link and try to locate a model number on your range. Then enter that model into the search box. The manual is probably available with the correct part number. Most Jenn-air electric cooktops start with JEC in their model number.

I hope this helps you locate the manual.

How to clean in between glass on oven door

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

I would recommend looking at those exploded views.
