Question about Delta X5 3Hp Left Titl Unisaw with Unifence

1 Answer

When I returned from a weeks trip this week, my blade would not go all the way down; lacking about 3/8 inch. Wen I left last week, it was fine. I cleaned the rack and pinion with a wire brush after i blew all the saw dust off with an air hose. I also lightly oiled the mechanism; did'nt help. What else can I do?

You only have 2 spots that will stop the blade from coming down unless something broke. There is a pin in the trunnion gear thing that is the stop. With the blade off, you can see the pin, right above the gear cut, it stops on a big pin in the back of the gear. It could be covered with stringy stuff and you wouldn't see it. And the other spot would be the back of the motor when it drops down, it could be hitting on a block of wood at the back of the saw. I can't see anyplace else it would stop. Did somebody use the saw while you were gone? Did they change the blade? How about the belt? I'm dieing to find out what happened. Hope this helps.

Because of the informatyion you gave me I removed the motor cover and found it packed with saw dust. I had not cleaned it out in 15 years! That solved the problem. Is there an easy way to prevent this from happening again? Thanks.

Oh yeah, I took that cover off and through it in the trash with the rip guard. How can the dust come out?? It can't, but I guess they expect you to have a vacuum system hooked up. My vacuum system is in the ceiling in the form of a whole house fan that will pull your wig off. Just above the saw, catches all the fine stuff, great for smoke too. I have a forge set up on the bench. We cook up a lot of metals.

Hello Keith, It sounds to me that the drive belt needs to be tightened. There are two bolts between the engine and the blade. Loosen those bolts, tighten the belt and tighten the bolts.

sounds like wrong firing order of the cylinders. If you have the 4 cylinder engine the firing order is 1-3-4-2. Number 1 is the end of the engine the belts are on

Hello 93 The compressor caused the breaker to trip.A weak capasitor or burnt wire is a common cause. It sounds like the compressor is NOT on even though the fan is.It may need a new wire or maybe a HARD START kit to help restore operation.Call for help.HS kits are not expensive.NO damage results from leaving it on, the problem would have happened anyway even if you went on vacation or not.The curcit breaker stopped it.Its worth fixing.

I would really check the integrity of the filter. I have put new filters on and they did not flow oil very well or were defective. If it is a lifter noise it is a good thing to make sure it is not from lack of oil flow from a poor filter. It will hard face the lifter shim and will continue to tap even after change if left too long. Hope this helps and have a good day.

Leaves about a 1/4 inch space down middle of paper.

That is the cleaning assembly in the drum cartridge.Either something slipped into the cartridge or the blade tucked. Sounds more like something is in the cartridge blocking the drum from both cleaning and charging/
