Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

Have a Canon PC720 copier that displays a paper jam message immediately upon pressing the green start button. This occurs just after the paper is picked up from the cassette and has been transported about 3 inches between the paper transport rollers. If I then turn off the power and restart it, the copier functions normally and prints a copy when the green button is pushed. Also, if I turn the copier off and on twice, before making a copy, the copier works fine. This only occurs when making the first copy after power being off for a while.

How to Fix a Paper Jam in a Copy Machine

It seems inevitable that the copy machine will have a paper jam. You need the copies immediately, so how do you fix the jam? Luckily, ingenuity and a manual, can help you fix the problem yourself. Fixing a paper jam, can elevate you to hero status amongst your co-workers.

  1. Discover the location of the jam. Carefully open the cover of the copy machine and the paper tray to see exactly where the paper is jammed.
  2. Step 2 Turn off the copy machine before pulling out the paper.
  3. Step 3 Pull the page out, the opposite way it is fed into the copier. Pull the jammed sheet out gently. If you tug too hard, the paper may rip.
  4. Step 4 Check for any paper fragments and clean up any torn pieces.
  5. Step 5 Check the roller where the jam occurred to be sure none of the copier parts are loose or broken. The roller should be smooth all the way across with no possible snags.
  6. Step 6 Replace the cover and paper tray and turn the machine back on.
  7. Step 7 Press the button to cancel the paper jam message. This button will vary among copy machines. The display will tell you which button to push.

Copier is Canon PC 720 Copier turns on, but makes

You said you unplugged your copier, did you unplug it for 10 to 15 minutes before plugging it back in, plug it into a differed
outlet that you know works and plug it directly into a wall outlet instead of a power strip. Check to see if your copier reaches stand-by mode then make a test sheet.

If this does not work then you have probably have an internal processing component which requires attention.

Our customer has a Canon Laser fax L800, Error message of Jammed paper displays, despite the fact that there is no paper jammed in the machine, paper path looks ok. Any ideas !!

Is it a jam or an add paper message (same light)? Sometimes you have to press the start button after you add paper on this machine.

Canon PC720 copier

Looking at the copier where the paper comes out of, there is a switch to open and close it. Pull up and look on the left side in the back. There is a little spring that comes off, or breaks, or the plastic that holds it on breaks. THIS CAN PAPER JAM THE MACHINE AND SEEM LIKE A MAJOR PROBLEM. ALL IT IS IS A LITTLE SPRING. Hope that is only your problem.

Canon Pc720 Copier Paper Jam

The problem with the paper jam (but not feeding) is that a small
piece of plastic that holds one end of a spring the causes the feed
gears to push against the powered gear on the back side of the toner
cartridge breaks off. So the unit does not feed (no pickup rollers
etc) and it thinks there is a paper jam (no moving paper). Orienting
the front as the side you work at, the back being the back, the
feed being the side the paper goes into and the output being the
side the finished copy comes out, open the unit. Looking into it
from the output side almost to the input on the bottom notice the
small hairlike things sticking up. Move to the left (back of the
machine) and see a few white gears all hooked into this gray metal
housing that moves up and down about 1/2 inch (It pivots). At the
top input side of this metal you will see a part of the metal that
stick up and has a small slot in it. the spring used to hook onto
this and the other end hooked to a small piece of plastic down and
more to the input side a bit, onto the upper input side of the white
plastic part that houses a shaft to a roller (fat little spring
about 1 inch long). the plastic part breaks off and you usually
can't see that a part was even there. The spring will still be in
the area. If you are handy, you can figure out how to fix it. I got
a longer spring (same strength) bent the metal toward the back 1/4"
and ran the new spring from there to a 1/16 hole I drilled in the
plastic side next to the circuit board (down low and back). I shaped
the end of the spring (where I drilled)to keep it more inside and
not hit anything. Works fine.
