Question about Infinity PS-10 Subwoofer

1 Answer

My Infinity ps-10 subwoofer makes crackling sounds. I took it to a repair shop and they say it needs a new power supply and a new amplifer and that it will be over $200 to repair it. I only paid $400 (6 years ago new). Is it worth repairing? Can I fix it myself? Can I buy parts?

Probably not, but you could make it into a passive subwoofer by disconencting its internal amp and powewring the driver directly by an external amp being fed by an LFE channel.

I did this with a problematic Klipsch SW.

Thanks, I will try this as It will help me determine if the speaker or the amp is bad on my ps-12.

I get a speaker hiss even with sound disconnected and can replace the speaker for $75 or the amp for $154 (when ordered from infinity). I want to be sure which it is before I order.

Once my sub warms up it makes a noise which occurrs every 8-10 seconds apart. It sounds like an amplified ark

You should power the system off right away when you hear that because the thermo shut down does not kick in. The temperature will eventually damage your semiconductors and capacitors and the system will be completely damaged. You need to ventilate the system better and even upgrade the heat material if you can.

My Infinity sub-woofer for my home surround sound system will not turn on. The power light wont even turn on. What can I do to repair this? It seems that no electronic place with repair infinity speakers...

Open it up and see what is in there! You might find a fuse blown. It might have just blown, without a fault, if you are lucky. If not check out the part numbers on the amp board. All semiconductors numbers, then put the numbers into google. You will soon find out if they are obtainable!

Infinity ps-10 powers up but no boom

Try hooking up a different signal input to your powered sub, another stereo or even a dvd players audio output to the sub will work for a test. Just make sure the subs gain is down before starting. If it still not producing sound, the subwoofers amplifier is bad. I hope this helps.

Inifinity Entra Sub not working

The hum can be from the power supply not properly filtering, and or the output stage also has a short.

There is the chance that the speaker driver coil is now burned, or the power supply is now dead. If ther output stage is shorted and was putting DC on to the speaker cone, this will burn it very easily.

You should sent the unit out and have it serviced, unless you are properly trained, have the service and engineering manuals, and the test equipment to follow up on a proper repair and calibration.

Infinity PS-12 Subwoofer clicking in and out of standby

Hello,
Unfortunately your subwoofers amplifier circuitry will need to be repaired ,the amplifier is bad and kicking in to protect mode. This mode is designed for safety of the unit and user and sub should not be operated until repaired as it may incur more damage to the components. I hope this helps.

Infinity PS-10 quit working

I think the electronics have a 3 years warranty and the drivers have a five years warranty for this product, maybe you can have it replaced. Maybe the auto on/off signal detector is the culprit.
