Is the time record function not working? If not then are you not able to figure out how to do it?

I believe I know how to go through the set up ok but it does'nt work---like there is something wrong with the program.

  • whipperwill Jun 07, 2010

I have the manual that came with unit when I purchased it several years ago.It works fine in every way except timed record(works fine when recording manually).I've gone through the recommended procedure for timed recording many times, but when the time for it to turn comes nothing happens. The error message is always E40.

Verify whether you have followed all the steps correctly that are page 30 of the manual below This one is more detailed than the one you get with the unit. If problem persists let me know.

  • whipperwill Jun 11, 2010

I downloaded the Funai manual & read & reread chapter 30 regarding timed recording. I've run the recording program several times using various start, finish & mode times with always the same result---will not record. The program seems to work up to the point where it tuns on. Two minutes before time to turn on the dvd symbol goes to blinking but when turn on time comes nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Looks like you have a disobiedient firmware. Time to upgrade it. There is a firmware upgrade disk that can be obtained from philips. Apparently it has a lot of recording bugs fixed. So I suggest you try it and see if it works.

Go to menu, timed recording/recording, set the date, the channel to record (usually input or av channel if you are using rca jacks) (channel 4 if you are using coaxil cable) then set the time for the recording to start, the time for the recording to end, then press exit. It should now be all set.

Have you followed the steps in the manual for timed recording? Are you making sure to use the auto frame rate setting as well? At what part is it not cooperating?

Alot of the time when these units quit working correctly its cheaper to buy another one, you could have Bad IC in unit.

Hi whipperwill

It would seem that your not the first that has problems with the timer recording.
So here`s what i`d like you to do;
Set your timer as you usually would and if recording on disk , use a blank that has`nt been in another machine as the recorder has to format it using it`s own system.
Once the program is done press the "timer set" button on the remote and make sure the unit goes into standby mode, otherwise use the power button to power it down.
In otherwords the unit has to be in standby mode when the selected time comes around.
So if you`re using it in the mean time , make sure to power it down with the timer set or power button.
Let me know how it goes

I've done as you suggested: put a fresh dvd in the recorder. Programed it for a 30 minute session with a 1 hour mode time. Hit time set and the standby symbol came up with a dvd symbol (steady state). In 2 minutes the dvd symbol went to blinking. When time came for recorder to come on nothing happened. This is what occurs every time I've run a program.

    any more suggestions?

    hi again

The only other suggestion that i might have is to download the owner`s manual here:

    http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/...

And if all of this doesn`t work then you dvd/vcr is defective and needs to be serviced or replaced.

    Good luck

Hi,
Have you followed all the steps on p. 30 of the manual. You can download and view the pdf at this link:
http://www.funai-corp.com/6pdf/om/MWR20V6.pdf
If so and there is a problem recording it should give you a specific error number. If your having problems with the one of the steps let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

I went through the entire timed setup and hit timer set. The standby symbol & dvd symbol (steady state) came up. Two minutes before the timer was to turn the recorder on the dvd symbol started blinking. When the timer should have turned the unit on it did not (after the two minutes of blinking). There was nothing recorded therefore no error symbol.

    Any suggestions?

If the timer program did not complete correctly, the error number appears in the Timer Programming list.

  • whipperwill May 21, 2010

I've run the timer program several times using different mode times and checked back after each program had finished. The result each time said the error was E 40. What do I do now?

  • whipperwill May 24, 2010

Do you have any further words of wisdom for me ?

Hello. I have done some reasearch on your MWR20V6 device, and have found the following steps which will enable you to "Timer Record." At the bottom is a picture of your remote, so that you know what buttons to press.

1. Press [TIMER]. Timer Programming list will appear.

2. Using the up and down arrows, select a program number. Press [OK].

3. Using the up and down arrows, enter the date. Press the right arrow.

4. Using the up and down arrows, enter the start and end time. Press the right arrow.

5. Using up and down arrows, select the channel number to record. Press the right arrow.
*To record from external input, select E1 or E2.

6. Using the up and down arrows, select a recording media. Press the right arrow.
* To record on a videotape, select VCR, and to record on a disc, select DVD.
7. Using the up and down arrows, select a recording mode.
8. Press [OK] when the information is entered. Your program setting will be stored at this time.
9. Press [TIMER SET] to set a Timer Programming. The clock icon and the words 'DVD RW' will appear on the front panel.

this would be the normal way if my recorder was programmed correctly but i have been down this road so many times this isn't the solution. you can't do the same thing over & over again & expect a different result. do you have another thought?

You say that you can not time record a DVD, but can you record a program manually? If you can not record at all, either while using the timer or trying to record manually, then the problem is in the burner portion of the optical assembly, the optical assembly consists of two sections, the playback or reader and the burner or recorder, and they are both included in one assembly. So if the recording side is not working at all then the whole assembly needs to be replaced.

If you are able to record manually, then there is a problem in setting up the different program for the start and end times or the main clock is not set correctly.

I can record manually. I've checked and reset the clock over over again. When I set up the timed program all goes well until the time comes for the recorder to come on but it doesn't. I've tried using the various programs ( today's date,daily,mon-fri ) etc but cannot get any of them to work. I agree it sounds like a clock problem but it's got me buffalod.

    Where to now?

  • jaime vargas May 15, 2010

When you set the different program times and after you press the timer set key, do you get the timer record icon? If you do get the icon, The problem might be a firmware glitch, but before going further, try resetting the whole unit by unpluging it from the AC outlet and reset the clock and timer record program, see what will happen.

  • whipperwill May 15, 2010

Unplugged unit to reset. Reset clock. Ran new program---still same problem (will not record).

  • jaime vargas May 15, 2010

whipperwill, I can not think of anything else to try, I was thinking that maybe some type of factory change or an update in the dvd recording process, but both the Magnavox and Philips web sites do not recognize this model number, I managed to locate the owners manual for this model under the funai corporation's site, but they do not show any firmware updates for this. I do not think I can help you any further, so you might keep the post open for somebody else that might have ran into this problem before, I will keep searching for an answer in the meanwhile for you.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for all your efforts. I've had this unit for several years and never been able to time record with it. It works well in every other way. Probably had glitch in original programing.

    Thank you,

sure it can, just a bit of soldering. unplug and open up the unit. the outside of the coaxial housing is the ground side, and there should be a very small pin that will insert to circuit board. you just need to reconnect them. Ive used hot glue in a pinch before.
