Is your laptops motherboard and vga chipset working? Please try to connect the laptop to another monitor if you are unable to get any image out it might be that the 2nd output is disable OR your motherboard or vga chipset has failed.

If the laptop works on another monitor, then there is still something wrong on the lcd.

But I think there is a more serious problem.

if you need more assitance let me know. good luck.

I have a CF-30 toughbook and my screen lights up for about 4 seconds and then goes dark everytime I open the the lid. I can see the screen is still on but not lit up, it will relight if I close the screen...

It could be loose wiring.

1. Take the screen bezel and LCD board off and reseat all the connections. In other words, unplug and plug it in again.

How to: CF-30 toughbook LCD replacement video

2. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you must replace the LCD inverter.

I have a vaio PCG-61313L, i replaced the screen because it was broken, when i test the new screen, i got no backlight, i try to replace it with the old one but got the same problem, backlight was gone....

Hello,

The problem is not with the screen. If you turn on your laptop in a dark room and you put a flashlight on your screen, you will get a very faint display. The problem seems to lying with the inverter.

The inverter is a electrical device which 'backlits' the LCD and gives the display. Without the inverter and the bulbs it powers, the screen would be too faint to be seen.

To test if the inverter is defective, just turn on your laptop in a dark space, then put a flashlight on the screen to see if you have a fainted display. If you can see something, it is the inverter which is defective and should be replaced.

If you are handy, you can also remove the screen cover to see if there is a neon like light which lits up behind the LCD. If you can see the light, it means that the inverter is just working fine and that the is with the LCD itself.

Replacing the inverter:

1. After removing the screen 'cover', locate a small circuit board (usually below the LCD). Unplug the electrical cables and replace.

In your case, as the LCD has been replaced, check if the cables are well connected to both ends of the inverter. If the cables are well connected, consider replacing the inverter.

Laptop screen is very dim. There is a very faint image. The LCD screen is brand new so that's not the problem

Hello,

As per your description, it is probably your inverter which is faulty.

The inverter is an electrical device which 'lits' the LCD. Without the inverter and the bulbs it powers, the screen would be too faint to be seen correctly.

If you can see the light, it means that the inverter is just working fine and that the is with the LCD itself, but if there is no light coming from behind the LCD, then you need to replace the inverter.

Replacing the inverter:

1. After removing the screen 'cover', locate a small circuit board (usually below the LCD). Unplug the electrical cables and replace.

Hope this posts helps you.

My hp laptop turns on bt the screen will not come on how can i fix it

Hello,

As per your description, there are two possible causes. Either the LCD is out of order and needs to be replaced, or that the inverter is defective.

The inverter is a electrical device which 'lits' the LCD.

In case the inverter is working correctly, try to check the LCD cables. If all cables are well connected, your LCD has to be replaced.

Hope this posts helps you.

Compaq presario cq61 screen went dark but can still see window faintly through the dark sreen.

Look at the LCD screen very closely and check if you can see a faint image on the screen. It's possible that the LCD lid close switch stuck in the "closed" position and the back-light stays off even when you open the LCD screen or turn on the laptop. The switch turns off the back-light when you close the LCD display to save the laptop battery power.

If no luck, try to remove battery and drain the power, then replace battery and turn on.

If that didn't fix it then there are 3 things that could have gone wrong:

1. Video cable connection from inverter to LCD got loose. To check this, follow instructions from step 3 on how to open the LCD and check if cable is fitted properly.

2. The video inverter is faulty
The screen inverter failure is very similar to the back-light lamp failure. In both cases the screen gets very dark and the image on the screen becomes very faint, barely visible under a bright light. If it's still under warranty, take it for a replacement. You can replace this otherwise - you can find the inverter under the screen, follow the procedure described at point 3 to open up the screen.

3. The LCD monitor is faulty
If it works on an external monitor most likely the LCD is faulty and needs replacement. If it's still under warranty, take it for a replacement. If not, you can do it yourself, it's pretty easy. Remove the rubber covers on the side of the screen, unscrew the screws take the plastic cover off, disconnect the video inverter and put in the new LCD after you connect the video inverter to it.

Screen has gone almost dark. I can just make out the initial sign on screen. i replaced the LCD and it made no difference. i replaced the power inverter and the issue remains the same. any thoughts?

Can you use an external monitor? If the external monitor works fine then it could be the lcd cable that is defective. You replaced the lcd and the inverter but not the cable? I would use an external monitor and try to go into the bios. In the last pages of the bios there is a place to increase the brightness for both on A/C and Battery. Notice where the bars are and increase the bars until all of them are lit. Save and exit the bios. You also can increase the brightness using the keyboard. Hit the Fn key and look for the button that has the brightness symbol on it. Press both to up the brightness. These are the things I can think of at the moment. Let me know how you make out. System on but screen dark

I had this problem with my Dell laptop as well. It may not be the solution, but if your laptop is older, the LCD power inverter may be burnt out. If that's the case, it's about a 50 dollar fix. See if you can take a flash light to the screen and if you can see what's on the screen, but it's very dark, this LCD inverter may be the problem.
