Question about Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED Film Scanner (35 mm)

1 Answer

"Nikon scan unable to find any active devices"

I bought my Nikon Coolscan 4000ED some years ago, and conencted it to a Dell PC; I used Nikon Scan 3.1 software. I had sporadic problems getting computer to talk to scanner, and downloaded a new driver software that fixed the problem.

A year ago I bought a new PC, and dod not get round to connecting the scanner till now. I'm back to where I was at the start; when I switch the scanner on and then the software (still 3.1) I get "Nikon scan unable to find any suitable devices".

I imagine I need an up to date driver; I have tried to find one viw the Nikon web site or via Google, without success.

Sny solutions?

I've got the same problem with my LS4000 Scanner. I tried the link listed and got further along ( Now I have a driver listed but the driver has a yellow question mark in device manager. ) but it still doesn't work. Any advice?

I have the same message but the scanner is the "Coolscan III" (LS/2000)

I have a similar problem. I move the LS4000 from an older Dell where it worked fine, to a newer Dell where Windows XP didn't recognize the new hardware device and Scan 4.0.2 said 'Nikon Scan was unable to find any active devices' although the scanner was connected to a Nikon 1394 Firewire card.

Get the older 3.X version of Nikon Scan online.
It works fine with my 4000ED Firewire on a MBP running OSX 10.6.
For some reason my 5000ED USB runs fine on NS 4.0.2 and 10.6 on an older iMac, but 4.0.2 won't run at all on the MBP. Don't know why. Installed, uninstalled and reinstalled many times. No luck.

Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED can not be recognized by computer

I am having the exact same problem...cannot get the Coolscan 9000 to show up in Device Manager. One thing I did try (to no avail) was to run the regsweeper.exe file that comes with the Nikon scan disk. It clears your registry when you reinstall. It still did not work though so I have a lovely "shoebox" sitting next to my computer that is worthless!

Launch Nikon Coolscan, but browser/scanner window doesn't open

I think the scanner may have got confused and be expecting another adaptor to be connected. If you slot in the single slide adaptor, wait until all the scan functions become active on-screen, then remove that and insert the SF-210, you might find it works OK.

Nikon Coolscan 9000 not recognized by XP computer anymore....

I read and would like to thank, the person who mentioned this as a solution. It was stated that if you have more than one firewire on your computer, when you open the Nikon, both signals, or whatever happens in computerland, don't connect. Upon removing the drive in the other firewire, Nikon clicks in everytime. Answer: have only ONE active firewire at a time. You may need to unplug the cable to the scanner and reconnect. But that's it. I've not had any problems since

Just curious... did you unplug the unit for a period of time, or did you only power it off? I would definitely unplug it for about ten minutes, then plug it back in.

did you actualizaed the firmware to 1.1 before to use the nikon scan 4.02? It seems you have to use the 3.0 &+ version to upgrade the firmware. I am on macbook intel and no pbms except the ejecting fonctions works bad and i am trying to solve it. Happy new year anyway...
