Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

I just installed a new Whirlpool dishwasher (model DU1301XTV) and have run three loads. Each time, the glasses, silverware, and plastic, come out with white, chalky residue. There are also water spots. I have tried it with both Cascade detergent, and with a Quantum Finish tablet. I have also filled the reservoir with Jet Dry. Do I have a defective dishwasher? Do I have a clogged line?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First of all please check the water temperature by using a thermometer inside the dishwasher to measure the water temp. It should be as close to 125 degree F to 140 degree F as possible. Now try using the temperature boost feature if your dishwasher is equipped with this cycle feature and check if this will help your wash ability issues. Now check the Powder soap by making sure that you store your soap in a dry environment and it is not stale and clumping together. Possibly try a different detergent like a liquid or gel. Also, make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded. To check the proper filling dishwasher will fill with water up to and around the heating element. If water is more below the heating element, you may have low water pressure or a problem with the fill valve. Try & listen if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure. For low water pressure, try to clean the screen at the entrance of the fill valve, sometimes the fill valve can fail and not allow the proper water into the dishwasher and may need to be replaced. And, check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks. Also make sure that the water is draining and is not accumulated in the dishwasher, if it is in dishwasher then check for clogged drain hoses and drain pump. Low water fills are a very common trouble maker with today's dishwashers. If still the issue is not resolved, then please use the warranty and get it repaired/replaced. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Du1301xtv only washes on light cycle

The electronic component called a Solenoid may be stuck or partially clogged. This can happen when the water has an abundant amount of minerals and deposits. Often where the water sources are located in sandy communities. Also, these devices can over heat or malfunction over time from general use.

I have a whirlpool gold quiet three.It has never been used I do not have the instruction manuel. help with starting please

Hello.
If you've just installed a Whirlpool Gold dishwasher, consider yourself truly liberated from the drudgery of standing at the sink washing plate after plate and saucepan after saucepan. You'll find it much easier to keep the kitchen clean as your dirty dishes are hidden away in your new appliance and all you have to do is wipe down the counter tops and switch the dishwasher on when it's full. However, to get the maximum benefit from your new piece of equipment, it's important to use it correctly.

Instructions
MATERIALS NEEDED WHEN OPERATING.
* Dishwasher detergent
* Dishwasher rinse aid
Preparation of Dishes
1 Scrape leftover food off the dishes and make sure no other hard objects such as small bones or toothpicks remain on them.
2 Remove sticky labels from any newly bought food containers you are washing for the first time.
3 Make sure any leftover coffee, tea, soda or wine has been poured out of cups, mugs and glasses.
Loading the Dishwasher
1 Place cups, mugs and glasses in the top rack with the open ends pointing downwards. Cups and mugs should go along the left and right outside edges, with glasses beside them. Position small plates and saucers in holders along the center of the rack running from back to front.
2 Place larger plates and bowls in the bottom rack, which is also where casserole dishes and saucepans should be washed. Avoid overlapping bowls and plates, because it is important every surface is open to the water directed around the dishwasher's interior during the program.
3 Create a flat surface on which to lay saucepans and larger dishes by collapsing some of the plate holders on the bottom rack, if your model dishwasher allows. Lay them open-end down to allow the water to be directed around their interiors.
4 Position dirty saucepans at the rear of the bottom rack with the open end facing the back of the machine's interior, if your machine has a "PowerScour" facility.
5 Place silverware in the silverware basket with sharp items pointing downwards. Alternate the direction in which you load spoons to prevent them "nesting" together, which stops water reaching every surface.
Detergent and Rinse Aid
* 1

Place detergent in the dispenser just when you intend to run the wash cycle, not before. If you're using standard powder or liquid detergent, be guided by the hard-water and soft-water indicators. These are lines marked in the side of the dispenser. In areas with soft water, fill to the soft water line and in hard-water areas fill to the hard water line. If you prefer individual tablets, follow the manufacturer's instructions.
2 Add rinse aid immediately when the rinse aid indicator reaches the "add" level. Turn the cap on the rinse aid dispenser to "refill" and lift it away from the dishwasher. Pour rinse aid into the opening until the indicator reaches the "full" mark and replace the lid. Make sure the lid is tightly in place.
3 Adjust to a higher setting on the arrow adjuster, located inside the dispenser, if you feel more rinse aid is needed during a wash cycle. You can do this by inserting a flat-blade screwdriver into the center of the adjuster.
Starting the Wash
* 1 Check that the spray arms can rotate freely before closing up the dishwasher.
2 Turn on the hot faucet at the sink closest to the dishwasher and let the water run until it is hot.
3 Close the door firmly and select the wash cycle you wish to use. Depending on which model you are using, you may wish to activate additional options during the cycle such as "Power Scour." These options should also be selected at this stage.

Thanks.

If you have hard water, glasses can look spotted and cloudy even after cleaning. Sometimes changing the dishwasher detergent can help. The easiest solution to clearing up glasses that start to look cloudy is to add some vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher before you start a cycle. Simply add 1/4 of white vinegar and it will clear up your glasses very well.
You should see marked improvement after the first time you do this. If they are not crystal clear then simply repeat the process until all of the cloudiness is gone. In fact I recommend to using a little vinegar in each cycle to maintain the clarity of the glass.

Note: you can pre-test this by rubbing some vinegar on an individual glass with a cloth. If you cannot remove the cloudiness by soaking it and rubbing vinegar on it then it is possible that the glass is etched due to harsh or cheap dishwasher detergent and vinegar will not solve the problem.

White film on dishes, glasses and silverware.

white film is actually from the calcium and magnesium found in hard water. your dishwasher is fine. its the water leaving the residue and spots. go to www.dishwasherfilter.com . they have a new product out exactly for this reason. very affordable and works amazing. you will love it.

My stainless silverware and plastic serving spoons, well just about everything has a cloudy, gritty film on them. What can I do?

In addition to the clarification posted by egraber (above), try this....Use the least amount of detergent that you can stand. We usually equate more with better, but not so in this case. The detergent is a bit abrasive, and, over a period of time, will leave scratches and deposits on your dishes, flatware and glasses. If you load the cup like egraber recommends, place detergent in the dispenser. When you remove the cup, test the temp of the water as he recommends, then slowly pour the water off, and check for sediment/soap residue.
